Solar company that got federal loan shuts down


WASHINGTON (AP) — A California solar-panel manufacturer once touted by President Barack Obama as a beneficiary of his administration's economic policies — as well as a half-billion-dollar federal loan — is laying off 1,100 workers and filing for bankruptcy.

Solyndra LLC of Fremont, Calif., had become the poster child for government investment in green technology. The president visited the company in May 2010 and noted that Solyndra expected to hire 1,000 workers to manufacture solar panels. Other state and federal officials such as former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Energy Secretary Steven Chu also visited the company's facilities.

what do Obama and President  Carter have in common?

Both had hopes for using solar as a new source of energy.
Since President Jimmy Carter announce his beliefs in his term till today I have yet to a practical application of solar power in any form.

Both are selling the ideal of solar as a means to end the oil needs of America.

If you look closely to any federal spending on solar, the companies experience a short spike in their business, usually several weeks later if you look at the numbers the jobs have dwindled away and the manufacturing of any solar hardware has been outsourced to China.  What the shit ?
It seems sort of stupid to still be continuing to sell the ideal of solar. This time around I believe that solar will cost Obama many votes and contribute to to his re election failure.
