Watermelon Eating Obama Mannequin in KY

Watermelon Eating Obama Mannequin in KY Kentucky resident Danny doesn't think the mannequin depicting President Obama eating a slice of watermelon he placed by the side of the road near his home is at all racist. Sadly, neither do most of his neighbors. "The way I look at it, it's freedom of speech," Danny told local television station Lex18. "I don't know how other people will take it." Hafley says the mannequin, which he put out around the time of the November election, is his "buddy" and that if he earned a dollar each time someone snapped a photo of it, he'd be a millionaire. To him, it's all a big joke. But at least one of his neighbors thinks the display isn't funny. "If he wants to place it someplace else that would be fine," the neighbor told the television station, speaking anonymously. "We don't have Black people in this community, but I'm sure they travel this road like everybody else does. They could be offended. I don't agree with it." It's not the first time watermelon imagery has been used in attacks against Obama, and likely won't be the last. Hafley says he will keep up his display until the spring or any trouble comes from it. "He's pretty popular," Hafley said. "If he's as popular in Washington as he is here, then he's a popular man." see article at... http://www.bet.com/news/politics/2012/12/28/kentucky-man-defends-watermelon-eating-obama-mannequin.html
