To Save America: Stopping Obama's Secular-Socialist Machine
by newt gingrich

America on the Brink

The Obama administration is conspiring to transform America. They want to remake our America—of free enterprise, faith, and personal freedom—into their America—of endless bureaucracy, secularism, and state control—despite overwhelming opposition from the American people. How is this possible? How has the Obama team succeeded in adopting widely despised policies like the massive stimulus bill and the healthcare takeover? How could such a radical president and his congressional leaders get elected and then take a center-right country in a socialist direction bitterly opposed by most Americans? Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has the answer: the Left have built a secular-socialist machine out of corruption, lust for power, and sheer ruthlessness, and are using it to steamroll over the will of the people.

In this book, Gingrich reveals:

* How the secular-socialist machine gained power through deception and outright lies
* How the machine shuts the American people out of the legislative process
* Why some of our most powerful leaders seek to banish religion from public life
* How the machine uses taxpayer money to pay off its supporters and punish its opponents
* How we can replace, not reform, Obama’s socialist programs

Attorney General Eric Holder Eric Holder doesn't like crackers?

A former Justice Department attorney who quit his job to protest the Obama administration's handling of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation case is accusing Attorney General Eric Holder of dropping the charges for political reasons.

J. Christian Adams, now an attorney in Virginia and a conservative blogger, also accuses Deputy Attorney General Thomas Perez of lying under oath to Congress about the circumstances surrounding the decision to drop the probe.

Charlie Wilson's War book and dvd

Charlie Wilson's War: The Extraordinary Story of How the Wildest Man in Congress and a Rogue CIA Agent Changed the History of Our Times

From Publishers Weekly

Put the Tom Clancy clones back on the shelf; this covert-ops chronicle is practically impossible to put down. No thriller writer would dare invent Wilson, a six-feet-four-inch Texas congressman, liberal on social issues but rabidly anti-Communist, a boozer, engaged in serial affairs and wheeler-dealer of consummate skill. Only slightly less improbable is Gust Avrakotos, a blue-collar Greek immigrant who joined the CIA when it was an Ivy League preserve and fought his elitist colleagues almost as ruthlessly as he fought the Soviet Union in the Cold War's waning years. In conjunction with President Zia of Pakistan in the 1980s, Wilson and Arvakotos circumvented most of the barriers to arming the Afghan mujahideen-distance, money, law and internal CIA politics, to name a few. Their coups included getting Israeli-modified Chinese weapons smuggled into Afghanistan, with the Pakistanis turning a blind eye,and the cultivation of a genius-level weapons designer and strategist named Michael Vickers, a key architect of the guerrilla campaign that left the Soviet army stymied. The ultimate weapon in Afghanistan was the portable Stinger anti-aircraft missile, which eliminated the Soviet's Mi-24 helicopter gunships and began the train of events leading to the collapse of the U.S.S.R. and its satellites.

A triumph of ruthless ability over scruples, this story has dominated recent history in the form of blowback: many of the men armed by the CIA became the Taliban's murderous enforcers and Osama bin Laden's protectors. Yet superb writing from Crile, a 60 Minutes producer, will keep even the most vigorous critics of this Contra-like affair reading to the end.

Wwallbuilders web site

WallBuilders is an organization dedicated to presenting America's forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on the moral, religious, and constitutional foundation on which America was built – a foundation which, in recent years, has been seriously attacked and undermined. In accord with what was so accurately stated by George Washington, we believe that "the propitious [favorable] smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation which disregards the eternal rules of order and right which heaven itself has ordained."

Why the name "WallBuilders"?
In the Old Testament book of Nehemiah, the nation of Israel rallied together in a grassroots movement to help rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and thus restore stability, safety, and a promising future to that great city. We have chosen this historical concept of "rebuilding the walls" to represent allegorically the call for citizen involvement in rebuilding our nation's foundations. As Psalm 11:3 reminds us, "If the foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do?"

Our Goal
WallBuilders' goal is to exert a direct and positive influence in government, education, and the family by (1) educating the nation concerning the Godly foundation of our country; (2) providing information to federal, state, and local officials as they develop public policies which reflect Biblical values; and (3) encouraging Christians to be involved in the civic arena.

Educating the Nation
In the first part of this goal, we develop materials to educate the public concerning the periods in our country's history when its laws and policies were firmly rooted in Biblical principles. As George Washington indicated in his famous "Farewell Address," previous generations believed such elements were inseparable from America:

Of all the habits and dispositions which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.
For over three centuries, historians presented American history from a broad perspective, but in the 1960s historical writers widely embraced what today is called the "economic view of American history" whereby economic causes are the primary and almost singular emphasis of study. Consequently, students study only "taxation without representation" when they examine the Declaration of Independence rather than important civil, governmental, and moral principles addressed in that document.

WallBuilders returns to the historical approach long utilized by the nation's pre-eminent historians. As Charles Coffin (a best-selling author of school history texts in the nineteenth century) reminded teachers in his text, The Story of Liberty:

You will notice that while the oppressors have carried out their plans and had things their own way, there were other forces silently at work which in time undermined their plans – as if a Divine hand were directing the counter-plan. Whoever peruses the story of liberty without recognizing this feature will fail of fully comprehending the meaning of history. There must be a meaning to history or else existence is an incomprehensible enigma.
This broad and thus much more inclusive approach to American history characterized the work of influential historians and educators from George Bancroft ("The Father of American History") to Noah Webster ("The Schoolmaster to America") to Emma Willard ("The Pioneer of Women's Education in America"), John Fiske, and countless others. In fact, to exclude non-economic events and motivations is to present a biased view of history. As explained by U. S. Department of Education history researcher Dr. Paul Vitz:
Bias is primarily accomplished by exclusion. . . . Such a bias is much harder to observe than a positive vilification or direct criticism, but it is the essence of censorship.
WallBuilders presents an uncensored view of American history, thus not only giving meaning to history but also keeping it from becoming what Charles Coffin termed "an incomprehensible enigma."

Providing Information
In the second part of our goal, we believe that as citizens learn the truth about our nation's past, they will be better equipped to help frame its future and to help shape the policies under which they will live. Toward this end, WallBuilders is an educational resource to those working toward improving federal, state and local policies. This is accomplished in part by providing direct assistance to our elected and appointed officials. This assistance takes several forms, including consulting with both legislators and judges, at their request, on legal and historical issues, testifying in state and federal hearings, providing research services, identifying and supporting sound legislation, and providing historical perspectives to current problems.

Encouraging Christians
Thirdly, we encourage people of faith to become involved in the civic arena, whether through prayer or direct involvement. As President and gospel minister James A. Garfield stated, "Now, more than ever, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature. . . . [I]f the next centennial does not find us a great nation. . . . it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces."

Our Founder
WallBuilders' founder and president, David Barton, resides in Aledo, Texas (just west of Fort Worth), with his wife, Cheryl, and their three children. David spent eight years as an educator and school administrator before founding WallBuilders. He has received numerous awards including several Who's Who honors, two Angel Awards for excellence in media, and the George Washington Honor Medal. He has spoken to numerous state legislatures, consulted with both state and federal legislators on various bills, and has written amicus briefs in cases at the U. S. Supreme Court.

Our Activities
WallBuilders is involved in a diverse array of activities which support our goals of educating Americans concerning our heritage and of influencing public policy.

The heart of our educational work, and that which makes WallBuilders so unique, is our library of rare books. We have collected thousands of first-edition works of our Founding Fathers – including their own handwritten documents – and it is primarily in these original sources that we conduct our research. From these priceless resources, we are able to document the rich religious and moral history of America as well as to establish the original intent undergirding the various clauses of our Constitution.

Based on our extensive research, we have produced over two dozen books and videos (with new releases every year) applying the lessons of our history to contemporary issues. These books and videos not only present our nation's rich heritage but they also introduce the current generation of Americans to an uncensored view of America's religious and political history. These materials are used extensively by public officials as well as by individuals, churches, Christian educators, and various organizations across the nation. In fact, even public schools and colleges are using these materials in their classrooms.

WallBuilders outreach to ministers has paved the way for exclusive Congressional Pastors' Briefings on Capitol Hill where hundreds of clergy have been impacted by some of the country's top conservative political leaders in these educational and informative sessions.

Additionally, individuals in communities across the nation use our loaner videos, designed especially for broadcast use, and have aired them to great effect (at no charge) on local cable stations. Groups of businessmen or ministerial alliances have banded together to purchase an hour of air time on local network affiliates. We have also produced dozens of one-minute radio spots, titled "Moments From America's History," which many citizens have successfully encouraged their local radio stations to air. (If you are interested in helping spread the message of America's strong religious and moral heritage through these means, please contact us at (817) 441-6044 or wbcustomerservice@wallbuilders.com.)

To assist in the formation of sound public policy, we have established the WallBuilders' ProFamily Legislative Network. This arm of WallBuilders monitors and collects pro-family legislation from the various states in over a dozen different areas (e.g., marriage, abortion, education, public morality, gambling, parental rights) which we then make available to legislators and activists in other states at their request, thus enabling pro-family legislation to be introduced in states across America. We also support efforts by groups such as The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) and Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation that seek to provide principled Christian leadership in diverse policy areas, including a comprehensive call to civic responsibility and a call to truth on environmental stewardship.

WallBuilders is also a national leader in efforts to return local control to citizens through restraining renegade federal judges who too often impose their own arbitrary values on communities. David Barton has not only authored several works on this issue, he also addresses legal groups and has been sought out by federal and state legislators in their attempts to curb activist judges.

Combining both the educational and the public policy information, WallBuilders offers public presentations on a variety of topics ranging from our Godly heritage to what can be done to restore Biblical principles in our nation.

What Others Are Saying
WallBuilders seeks to change lives, and thereby to change America. According to testimonials, this is occurring:

"David Barton is one of the foremost authorities on the moral and religious foundations of our nation's Constitution and history. I have heard David speak many times, have had him on my radio and television programs, have worked hand in hand with him to foster the political responsibility of the People of God, have co-sponsored clergy briefings with him in Washington, and have taken part in several of the spiritual heritage tours he gives of the Capitol. I always come away from his talks not only knowing more, but being more determined to preserve and advance our nation's Christian foundations. Moreover, I have seen firsthand the level of respect David is given by those who serve as our representatives in Congress and strive to live up to the vision our Founding Fathers had for those who occupy such high office.

"It is an honor to collaborate with David Barton and Wallbuilders, and I urge people of all denominations to become familiar with the resources he offers." --Father Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

"The seed you are sowing is bringing a harvest of righteousness and countering a tide of ungodliness. Praise the Lord." --Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty (Oklahoma)

"David's commitment to quality research and to making America a better place for our children shines through in all of his professional activities." --Former Congressman Bill Dannemeyer (California)

"Your materials were the turning point for me in becoming a Christian. . . . I feel like I have been granted a new life. . . . I thank God for you for influencing the way my life has changed." --Gary Sterling, presentation attendee (Texas)

"While watching [your] tape The Spirit of the American Revolution, I wept thinking how far our nation has moved away from the concepts of the Founding Fathers . . . . What can we do to get back to the founding concepts and blessings that our forefathers received?" --U. S. Senator Sam Brownback (Kansas)

"Seeing how far our country has moved from its beginnings and the original intent of our Founding Fathers has encouraged me to be very active politically to try to bring about a move back to our beginnings." --Connie Potter, presentation attendee (Washington)

"David's materials . . . have given me and other legislators the courage to defend the moral values that made our country great." --State Senator Ellen Craswell (Washington)

The above quotes represent but a few of the lives being changed through the message God has given WallBuilders. Their testimonials offer positive proof of a renewed vision and of a rededication to be good stewards of this country that God has so graciously placed in our hands. This civic stewardship is crucial both for our generation as well as future ones. WallBuilders embraces completely the timeless charge delivered in 1803 by the Reverend Matthias Burnet, who warned, "Let not your children have reason to curse you for giving up those rights and prostrating those institutions which your fathers delivered to you."

How to Get Involved
Although we have a dedicated staff at WallBuilders, we depend on people like you to help spread our message. There are at least three important things you can do to help.

The Influence of the Bible on America DVD

The Bible's profound influence on America, widely understood by previous generations, is largely unrecognized today. For years, Americans saw the Bible as a practical guidebook for directing every aspect of daily life, and it therefore shaped American government, law, and education as well as our free enterprise system, our views of private property, our social services, and so much more. This inspiring video presentation documents the dramatic impact of the Bible on American life and culture over the past four centuries.

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AFP) – A US judge Tuesday ruled against a six-month freeze slapped
on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, and the White House immediately announced
it would appeal the ruling.

Judge Martin Feldman ruled in favor of 32 oil firms which challenged the moratorium on deepwater drilling and exploration imposed by the Obama administration in the wake of the massive Gulf oil spill.

Feldman ruled in the New Orleans court that the oil firms motion for a "preliminary injunction is granted," saying he was persuaded it was in the public interest to
lift the freeze by the Minerals Management Service.

"The court has found the plaintiffs would likely succeed in showing that
the agency's decision was arbitrary and capricious," Feldman said in his written ruling.

Blacklisted by History by M. Stanton Evans

Blacklisted by History by M. Stanton Evans

Some book Reviews
"the greatest book since the Bible"
-Ann Coulter, Creators Syndicate

"It takes M. Stanton Evans's meticulous investigative journalism to show what Joe McCarthy's short stay on the national stage (a little under five years, from February 1950 to December 1954) really was about."
-Robert Novak, Weekly Standard

"So comprehensive is Evans's research that it will be a foolish historian who does not consult Blacklisted by History when a question arises over some person or event that comes into the McCarthy story."
-John Earl Haynes, co-author, Venona: Decoding Soviet Espionage in America

"This book will change forever how you think about Sen. McCarthy and the Soviet penetration of the U.S. government and society."
-Bob McMahan, Foreign Service Journal

"Evans goes through extensive files and transcripts with complete mastery of complex material and an engaging turn of phrase that makes more than 600 pages of painstaking analysis both a triumph of historical scholarship and a gripping detective story."
-David Ashton, The Salisbury Review

"Of the hundreds of books on the McCarthy era, Stan Evans has written the best—a nuanced, incredibly detailed work of scholarship."
-William Schulz, The American Spectator

"In this masterful instant classic, M. Stanton Evans sets out to tell the 'Untold Story of Joe McCarthy' and does so definitively."
-Jack Cashill, WorldNetDaily

"This is a master newspaperman at work: digging, interviewing the record, pulling apart and putting together the details of deeds done mostly by the politicians who ran our imperfect national government in the nineteen fifties."
-John Willson, Chronicles

"After combing through masses of declassified documents from Congress, the FBI, the State Department and other federal agencies, Stan Evans has produced a masterpiece of tru th."
-Terry Jeffrey, Human Events

"Evans, a veteran journalist, doesn't shout. He displays, instead, a deadly meticulousness that is, at last, overwhelmingly convincing."
-William Rusher, United Features Syndicate

"the most thorough scholarly examination of [McCarthy's] career"
-Cliff Kincaid, Accuracy In Media

"brilliantly documented"
-Wes Vernon, RenewAmerica.us

"monumental ... the result of six years of reading primary sources. Evans proves that almost everything about McCarthy in current history books is a lie and wil l have to be revised.... one of Reagan's old radio commentaries referred to Evans as 'a very fine journalist.' He is, indeed, but this book shows that he also is a Sherlock Holmes-type detective who chased every clue to find the truth and to write accurate history in elegant prose..... Everyone who henceforth writes about Joe McCarthy will have to check his facts with Evans' documented discoveries."

Obama appoints just 1 technie to look at the Gulf oil spill committee ?

Obama appoints just 1 technie to look at the Gulf oil spill committee ?

Now Emanuel has denied this report and for now he's staying put. And as always politics are trumping common sense at the White House. Now the latest incidence of that phenomenon is the panel that is appointed by the anointed one to investigate the Gulf oil spill.

Now according to the AP, only one member of the commission has a background in engineering in the unrelated field of optics and physics. And the others are merely Democratic partisans.

Let's take a look: Frances Beinecke is an environmental activist who has written that America's, quote, "addiction to oil is the primary cause of the Gulf spill." Former Florida Senator Bob Graham led his state's efforts to ban offshore drilling. Donald Boesch of the University
of Maryland argued that drilling off the coast of Virginia should be halted. And Fran Ulmer is a member of the Aspen Institute's Commission on Arctic Climate Change. And you know how big a threat that is.

Well, I don't know how much help these individuals will provide in investigating the spill, but I'm sure they will serve up a lot of Democratic talking points.

Joining me now with analysis Fox News contributor, the one and only, Charles Krauthammer.

Charles, welcome back.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER, SYNDICATED COLUMNIST: Thank you very much, Sean. Pleasure to be here.

HANNITY: All right. First of all I've always been suspicious because Washington Post, New York times, all these articles really praising Rahm Emanuel at the expense of the White House.

So rumors of his departure don't surprise me. And I always have the suspicion that why do I think that those rumors probably came from Rahm himself or somebody associated with him. Your thoughts?

KRAUTHAMMER: Well, I'm not sure. I mean there are so many back channels coming out of the White House. So many with private agendas and I'm always suspicious when I get one source, particularly a British source, telling me that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rahm left after the elections. And two years is probably enough. It's a tough job. And he's got other ambitions. He may not — you know, it's difficult to be chief of staff and to make a career out of it. And he's got ambitions, I think, for
electoral politics for him to be elected himself.

So he may — and also, given his name, his background I think he could make a lot of money in the short period of time and perhaps he wants to do that as well.

HANNITY: What do you make of this commission? Because it seems to me that if you're going to have a commission studying the Gulf oil spill, you'd probably want to put in there engineers, experts, people in the oil industry, people that know about drilling. Seems that we only
got people here with a political agenda.

KRAUTHAMMER: Well, that's what you do if you want a real
commission to give you real results.

(LAUGHTER)

KRAUTHAMMER: When Reagan — when Reagan appointed the commission for the Challenger disaster,
there were 13 members, seven of which were experts in aviation in space and three others were
scientists. Among whom was a man who was said to be the greatest scientific mind since Einstein, Richard Feynman, the guy who demonstrated the flaw that actually caused the explosion right there in the hearings on national television. That was a real commission.

Look Sean, you know as well as I do, you give me the power to appoint a commission, I can guarantee the result in advance. You can write the report in advance. And from what I heard of your tally of the members of this commission, the majority already are committed environmentalists so we know what they're going to recommend.

HANNITY: All right. So they're going in with a predetermined conclusion here. They're not going to really investigate because they don't have the scientific background to investigate the real causes.

So they're going to go in there with an agenda. Do you think the agenda is to stop all offshore drilling? What do you think of this?

KRAUTHAMMER: I'm not sure how specific it'll be, but you know it'll be hostile to oil, to fossil fuels, to any kind of increased exploration. One of them already has come out right now in the middle of the crisis against drilling in the Arctic which would be safer or drilling in other
places offshore in shallower water, which would be safer as well.

So that's a predetermined that can — look what happened when the secretary of the Interior appointed a real panel of experts to look into recommendations immediately and the Interior Department put out a report, under their — over their name, saying that we should six-month moratorium.

They were scandalized by that. They wrote a letter the Interior Department saying they never recommended that. These are real experts who said all you want is a pause. You don't want six months actually. It will increase safety risk as well as untold economic damage.

So here we are with the politicization of science by the administration, putting in a recommendation into a report that the scientists never did and then claiming that it was a recommendation of the scientists.

The deputy in the Interior Department has already apologized as a result of that. So you can see how objective they are with commissions.

HANNITY: Look, I've said from almost the very beginning, nothing surprises me inasmuch as, Charles, the president clings to his rigid ideology. What I am surprised about is I do think they ran a pretty effective and strong political campaign, and just for purely political purposes,I would think that the administration or the people around him that helped get him
elected would see politically that this has now become a massive liability for them.
But that's not the case. Why do you think that is?

KRAUTHAMMER: Look, I think they are appointing a commission so that they get people who look like experts. No one is going to go into details. Giving recommendations which they would make otherwise. And thus has a patina of being objective and scientific. That's what's going on here and that's how they want to get recommendations that are predetermined in advance.

HANNITY: All right, Charles Krauthammer, love your columns, love your writing and love Report" and "Special Report." Thanks for being with us.

KRAUTHAMMER: Pleasure. Great. Thank you very much.

Heavily-armed citizen militia group plans to patrol smuggling corridor - KOLD News 13

Mr

Bruce Feiler has been a guest on the Glenn Beck show...

The exodus story is America's story. Moses is our real founding father.

The pilgrims quoted his story. Franklin and Jefferson proposed he appear on the U.S. seal. Washington and Lincoln were called his incarnations. The Statue of Liberty and Superman were molded in his image. Martin Luther King, Jr., invoked him the night before he died. Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama cited him as inspiration. For four hundred years, one figure inspired more Americans than any other. His name is Moses.

In this groundbreaking book, New York Times bestselling author Bruce Feiler travels through touchstones in American history and traces the biblical prophet's influence from the Mayflower through today. He visits the island where the pilgrims spent their first Sabbath, climbs the bell tower where the Liberty Bell was inscribed with a quote from Moses, retraces the Underground Railroad where "Go Down, Moses" was the national anthem of slaves, and dons the robe Charlton Heston wore in The Ten Commandments.

The Northern Border Project also includes five similar systems Boeing delivered to the Buffalo (N.Y.) Sector. The Buffalo Sector deployment covers 15 miles of the Upper Niagara River.

"These systems will provide immediate tools for border surveillance that will also help enhance agent safety," said Tim Peters, Boeing vice president of Global Security Systems. "We are proud to support Customs and Border Protection in deploying next-generation border security capabilities."

For each deployment, CBP provided the systems' towers, cameras and sensors, while Boeing was responsible for installation and connection to sector headquarters.

Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling in Brazil ?

Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling in Brazil

You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil.

The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil's planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.

The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a "preliminary commitment" letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas.

But look on the bright side. If President Obama has embraced offshore drilling in Brazil, why not in the old U.S.A.? The land of the sorta free and the home of the heavily indebted has enormous offshore oil deposits, and last year ahead of the November elections, with gasoline at $4 a gallon, Congress let a ban on offshore drilling expire.

The Bush Administration's five-year plan (2007-2012) to open the outer continental shelf to oil exploration included new lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. But in 2007 environmentalists went to court to block drilling in Alaska and in April a federal court ruled in their favor. In May, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said his department was unsure whether that ruling applied only to Alaska or all offshore drilling. So it asked an appeals court for clarification. Late last month the court said the earlier decision applied only to Alaska, opening the way for the sale of leases in the Gulf. Mr. Salazar now says the sales will go forward on August 19.

This is progress, however slow. But it still doesn't allow the U.S. to explore in Alaska or along the East and West Coasts, which could be our equivalent of the Tupi oil fields, which are set to make Brazil a leading oil exporter. Americans are right to wonder why Mr. Obama is underwriting in Brazil what he won't allow at home.

ICE to offer offer fresh carrots and bingo nights to illegals ?

U.S. mulls less jail-like immigrant facilities

SAN ANTONIO - In an agreement U.S. immigration officials hope will begin to reshape the entire 30,000-bed detention system, some asylum-seekers and immigrants awaiting deportation proceedings could soon be held in facilities where they can wear their own clothes, participate in movie and bingo nights, eat continental breakfasts, and celebrate holidays with visiting family members.

It could end confinement in prison-like facilities - complete with razor wire, jail-style uniforms,
armed guards and partitions that prevent physical contact with loved ones - for those who
have never been convicted of a crime and are not considered a threat.

Corrections Corporation of America, the largest contractor for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has reached a preliminary agreement to soften confinement, free of charge, at nine immigrant facilities
covering more than 7,100 beds - a deal that ICE officials see as a precursor to changes elsewhere.

Overall, the facilities are expected to be less prison-like, offering freer movement for detainees, fewer pat downs and better access to legal resources. The agreement calls for fresh vegetables and access
to self-serve beverages along with cooking and exercise classes, according to a list released by ICE.

CCA will soften "the look for the facility with hanging plants, flower baskets, new paint colors, different bedding and furniture" and allow lengthy visits from friends and family who can provide outside packages
or food for special celebrations under changes to be made over the next six months.

ICE Director John Morton announced last year that the agency would make detention facilities less prison-like because immigrant detainees are being held on civil immigration charges,
not criminal offenses, though it was unclear at the time what changes would be made. The agency has long maintained that detention is not a punishment and that it ensures the immigrants show up for hearings. Nonetheless, it has relied heavily on contract facilities built to house criminals.

Negotiations continue with the remainder of the nearly 300 facilities under contract with ICE, mostly facilities owned by state and local governments, but "it's our goal to provide these types of reforms with all the facilities that ICE contracts with," said ICE spokesman Brian Hale.

ICE wants to create a less restrictive environment for those who are low-risk and not criminals, but those with criminal histories or who are otherwise a danger will remain in prison-like settings, he said.

New systemwide detention standards are still being drafted, but the agreement with CCA signals the less-restrictive modifications the agency wants for many detainees.

Union leaders representing guards object to the new plans, saying they're dangerous.

"It's absolutely insane, the changes they're making," said Chris Crane, president of AFGE Council 118/ICE, the union that represents 7,000 ICE officers but not the contractors.
"It just makes for an absolutely unsafe environment, not only for the detainees, but for the officers."

He contends that many detainees could be drug dealers or gang members - even if they haven't been convicted.

A 2009 review by The Associated Press of everyone in custody nationwide on a single night found that nearly three-fifths of detainees had no criminal convictions, even for minor offenses such as trespassing. Many are held only a few nights before being deported, while others - particularly those seeking asylum from persecution in their home countries -
an stay in custody for months or years while their cases are decided by an overburdened immigration court system.

Nearly 10,200 foreigners were granted asylum after going through immigration courts in fiscal year 2009.

But Crane said that doesn't mean detainees aren't criminals or gang members since local prosecutors, lacking resources, sometimes just dump "criminal aliens" into ICE custody.

"Does that mean you can't treat people humanely? Absolutely not," he said. "But we need to talk about the circumstances that these detainees were put in custody."

Ira Mehlman, spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which advocates tougher immigration enforcement, said plans to soften the look of facilities, particularly those that house families,
are appropriate. But he's concerned the changes, like cooking and exercise classes, go too far.

"From this memo, it sounds like they're turning them into Club Med," Mehlman said.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, raised similar concerns in a letter to ICE officials last week, saying softening the facilities - even for low-risk detainees - creates a "moral hazard."

Immigrant advocates object to the plans, too, but for another reason: they don't go far enough.

"They're really coming up with very minimal changes," said Andrea Black of the Detention Watch Network.

Most of the low-risk detainees who might get softened facilities shouldn't be detained at all, especially when less expensive electronic monitoring is available, she said.

"We're still talking about people being in detention for years on end," said Black. "This is their response? To offer fresh carrots and bingo nights?"

OBAMA VS. PRESS FREEDOM by Dick Morris

OBAMA VS. PRESS FREEDOM

By DICK MORRIS

Jon Leibowitz, the chairman of Obama's Federal Trade Commission, is at the epicenter of a quiet movement to subsidize news organizations, a first step toward government control of the media. In our book, 2010: Take Back America -- A Battle Plan, we reported that he had commissioned a study to examine plans for a federal subsidy for news organizations. Among the measures under consideration are special tax treatment, exemption from antitrust laws and changes in copyright laws.

Now Leibowitz has begun to pounce. A May 24 working paper on "reinventing" the media proposes that the government impose fees on websites such as the Drudge Report that link to news websites or that it tax consumer electronics such as iPads, laptops and Kindles. Funds raised by these levies would be redistributed to traditional media outlets.

While Leibowitz distanced himself from the proposals for the taxes, calling them "a terrible idea," his comments appear to be related only to the levies proposed in the working paper. Nobody is commenting on the other part of his proposal -- a subsidy for news organizations.

By now, the Obama MO should be clear to all. As he has done with the banks, AIG and the car companies, he extends his left hand offering subsidies and then proffers his right laden with regulations. Should the government follow through on Leibowitz's ideas and enact special subsidies and tax breaks for news organizations, it will induce a degree of journalistic dependence on the whims of government not seen since the days when the early presidents bestowed government advertising on favored periodicals.

Is it too difficult to imagine that the Democrats might pass laws favoring news organizations, only to question -- as former White House communications director Anita Dunn did -- whether or not Fox News is a news organization or an "arm of the Republican Party"? We can see a future in which news media are reluctant to be too partisan or opinionated for fear that they would endanger their public subsidy.

Once such a subsidy is extended to news organizations, every company in the business must have it. Otherwise, the competitive advantage for the subsidized companies would prove too steep an obstacle to overcome.

In all the attention that has been given to the idea of an Internet tax on news aggregation sites and on tech equipment -- trial balloons that would obviously be shot down -- very little attention has been focused on the expenditure side of the proposal -- the subsidy of news organizations.

But The Wall Street Journal reported six months ago that Leibowitz had commissioned a study to determine "whether the government should aid struggling news organizations which are suffering from a collapse in advertising revenues as the Internet upends their centuries-old business model." Among the steps under consideration are changing "the way the industry is regulated, from making news-gathering companies exempt from antitrust laws to granting them special tax treatment to making changes to copyright laws."

These are exactly the kind of subsidies that could and would trigger government oversight and control.

Look at how radio stations squirm when their licenses are up for renewal before the FCC. We can imagine news organizations pulling their punches in order not to antagonize the hand that feeds them.

The Leibowitz study, and the subsidy proposals that are likely to emerge from it, represent a chilling threat to the First Amendment and to our civil liberties.

Seven Events That Made America America

Seven Events That Made America America

By Larry Schweikart

From the Publisher
A conservative historian examines some of the pivotal, yet often ignored, moments that shaped our history

All students of American history know the big events that dramatically shaped our country. The Civil War, Pearl Harbor, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and 9/11 are just a few.

But there are other, less famous events that had an equally profound impact. Notable conservative historian Larry Schweikart takes an in- depth look at seven of these transformative moments and provides an analysis of how each of them spurred a trend that either confirmed or departed from the vision our Founding Fathers had for America. For instance, he shows how Martin Van Buren’s creation of a national political party made it possible for Obama to get elected almost two centuries later and how Dwight Eisenhower’s heart attack led to a war on red meat, during which the government took control over Americans’ diets.

Seven Events That Made America America: And Proved That the Founding Fathers Were Right All Along

In his easy-to-read yet informative style, Schweikart will not only educate but also surprise readers into reevaluating our history.

About the Author
Larry Schweikart is the author of 48 Liberal Lies About American History and the coauthor of A Patriot’s History of the United States. A professor of history at the University of Dayton, he has appeared as a guest commentator on Fox & Friends and written more than twenty books on national defense, business, and financial history. The Overton Window by Glenn Beck

The Overton Window
A Thriller by Glenn Beck
A plan to destroy America, a hundred years in the making, is about to be unleashed . . . can it be stopped?

There is a powerful technique called the Overton Window that can shape our lives, our laws and our future. It works by manipulating public perception so that ideas previously thought of as radical begin to seem acceptable over time. Move the Window and you change the debate. Change the debate and you change the country.

For Noah Gardner, a twenty something public relations executive, it's safe to say that political theory is the furthest thing from his mind. Smart, single, handsome and insulated from the world's problems by the wealth and power of his father, Noah is far more concerned about the future of his social life than the future of his country.

But all of that changes when Noah meets Molly Ross, a woman who is consumed by the knowledge that the America we know is about to be lost forever. She and her group of patriots have vowed to remember the past and fight for the future—but Noah, convinced they're just a bunch of freaky conspiracy-theorists, isn't interested in lending his considerable skills to their cause.

Arizona says no more to "anchor babies" ?

A proposed Arizona law would deny birth certificates to children born in the United States to illegal immigrant parents. The bill comes on the heels of Arizona's passage of the nation's toughest immigration law.

John Kavanagh, a Republican state representative from Arizona who supports the proposed law aimed at so-called "anchor babies," said that the concept does not conflict with the U.S. Constitution.Under federal law, children born in the United States are automatically granted citizenship, regardless of their parents' residency status.

Pelosi's New District Office Costs $18,736 a Month

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's district office in the new federal building in San Francisco costs a whopping $18,736 a month -- the highest paid rental by any member of the House.

San Francisco is a high-rent city. Just ask Nancy Pelosi.

The House Speaker's district office in the new federal building in San Francisco costs a whopping $18,736 a month -- the highest rental paid by any member of the House -- or, more precisely, the highest rental paid by taxpayers on behalf of a member of the House. The rental price was reported by Roll Call on Monday.

The Democratic congresswoman moved last fall from her old office in the Burton Federal Building, which she occupied for 20 years, to a "greener" space in the city's new federal building -- a move and a high price that her spokesman, Drew Hammill, says was amply justified.

Term Limits by Vince Flynn as mentioned on Glenn Beck show

Term Limits hit the New York Times bestseller list in paperback and started a trend for all of Flynn's novels. Since then, his books have become perennial bestsellers in both paperback and hardcover, and he has become known for his research and prescient warnings about the rise of Islamic Radical Fundamentalism and terrorism. Read by current and former presidents, foreign heads of state, and intelligence professionals around the world, Flynn's novels are taken so seriously one high-ranking CIA official told his people, "I want you to read Flynn's books and start thinking about how we can more effectively wage this war on terror."

October 2007 marked another milestone in Flynn's career when his ninth political thriller, Protect and Defend, became a #1 New York Times bestseller. A few months later, CBS Films optioned the rights for Flynn's Mitch Rapp character with the intention of creating a character-based, action-thriller movie franchise. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who previously launched the Harry Potter and Matrix films as head of production at Warner Bros., and Nick Wechsler (We Own the Night, Reservation Road) will produce the films.

are we on the "The Road to Serfdom" ?

"Glenn Beck," June 8, 2010.

GLENN BECK, HOST: Today, we're talking about the book "The Road to Serfdom." F.A. Hayek published it in the 1940s. And, you know, I don't have a warning label for it. But total government could lead to a loss of freedom. And that's what it should say right on the cover.

Hayek pointed out that total government needed propaganda and somebody to blame as a scapegoat those people. But the good news is we don't ever do that, right?

Glenn Beck: Why Canada sucks...........

Glenn Beck: Why Canada sucks...........
GLENN: From Canada, the Canadian youth soccer league is taking heat now after introducing a new rule that says any team that wins a game by more than five points will lose the game by default. The rule intended to foster sportsmanship. Excuse me?

PAT: Oh, my gosh.

GLENN: No, sportsmanship is we just kicked your…*** but we're not going to say it.

PAT: Right, right.

GLENN: We're not going to rub your nose in it.

PAT: Yes, yes.

GLENN: You played a good game, we played a good game. When I get my butt kicked, I'm going to go over and shake your hand and say...

PAT: Nice game, good game.

GLENN: You guys were unbelievable.

GLENN: You guys wiped our face in the dirt.

PAT: But I'll tell you something, we're coming back after you next time.

GLENN: That's sportsmanship!

PAT: Yeah.

GLENN: That's sportsmanship.

PAT: Yeah.

GLENN: This is, not to teach sportsmanship, this is to reprogram our children to not understand competition and also to have them grow in acceptance, kind of a dead inside kind of feeling of redistribution of wealth.

PAT: And redistribution of points.

GLENN: That's exactly it. That's what it is.

PAT: I mean, you have too many points, we're going to give them to the other team and they are going to win.

GLENN: Hang on just a second. You are going to go into a company and you are going to wipe out your competition? No, no, no, no, no. No. You can have too much. You can have too much. That's what they are teaching our children. You can have too much. You don't go in to compete and wipe your competition out, fairly, without malice in your heart, legally, no, no. You go in and you can compete, but not too much. Not too hard.

PAT: But didn't Obama say that recently?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: I want to be clear.

PAT: I think he's clear.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: We're not trying to push financial reform.

PAT: No, no.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Because we begrudge success that's fairly earned.

PAT: No.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money.

GLENN: Money, there you go.

PAT: At a certain point you've made too much money, at a certain point you've scored too many points. So what's the difference? We are just, we are teaching our kids to be losers.

GLENN: Yes. Yes, we are. And Pat, if you don't start a Connecticut —

PAT: I've got to do it.

GLENN: — baseball league for youth

GLENN: Because if you don't do it, I'm going to do it because my son's 5 and he's going to T ball, which I need help. I don't even know where — do you look that up in the phone book, what do you —

PAT: Yes, it's under T.

GLENN: Really?

PAT: No.

GLENN: I don't even know. No idea.

PAT: No.

GLENN: My wife said, we've got to get Raphe registered, you know, for T ball next year, blah, blah blah and, you know, got to get him — and I'm like...

PAT: Don't know where —

GLENN: Are you talking to me? Because I don't — I have no idea how you would do that.

PAT: Yeah, I could help with that. I can help with that.

GLENN: So anyway, but I'm not putting my kid through a sports program like the one your kids are in. It's a nightmare.

PAT: Well, it will start out, I will caution you now T ball will start out that way, and it does everywhere.

GLENN: Look, my son is 5.

PAT: That's okay when they are 5 or 6.

GLENN: You go out and hit the ball.

PAT: Exactly. I mean, they just learning the basics. When they are 12 like my son this year and they are playing majors little league —

GLENN: Rip their guts out on the field!

PAT: Exactly, exactly. But my wuss cake league in this stupid Connecticut town.

GLENN: I can't do it.

PAT: No standings kept during the course of the year. Then I find out they don't even keep scores during the games because they want all teams to be equal at the end of the year, until we go into the playoffs.

GLENN: I asked Pat the other day, he said, we're going into the playoffs. I said, how do you know who's in the playoffs? You haven't kept score!

PAT: Yeah, I know. Everybody goes into the playoffs, everybody. And I found out some other things, too, during the course of the year from standing behind the — I usually stand right behind home plate behind the fence there so — because it's the best vantage point to watch my son at bat and so the umpire sometimes comes over, I hear him say certain things to the kids and it's fascinating because he's called kids out. I was at one of the games and the — this strike zone was different late in the game than it was early in the game, which is, it completely screws up the kids. And I made an audible noise like, "What?" On one of the calls that he made. Like strike 3 and it was low and outside.

GLENN: I saw one of these. It was amazing.

PAT: Unbelievable.

GLENN: I'm like, I know nothing, I know nothing about baseball but I was standing behind the umpire, too He said, strike 2!

PAT: You knew better.

GLENN: And I said, in what world was that a strike

PAT: So he walks over to me and he says, yeah, to fit the game in the time limit, sometimes I have to call strikes that really aren't strikes.

GLENN: They have —

PAT: To move the game along.

GLENN: They have a time limit.

PAT: What?

GLENN: A time limit.

PAT: There's no time limit in baseball.

GLENN: Yes, there is when you are not keeping score. How do you know when it's over? My question is I'd like to know if you are not keeping score, why are we calling strikes and balls? Why are we doing that? Why doesn't —

PAT: Too sensitive.

GLENN: "Hey, Johnny, your turn, come on. Keep pitching the ball until I hits it over the fence and gets a home run." I mean, you don't — why? Just keep going. Just keep going and everybody gets it. And if he can't hit the ball, well, then we're going to pick it up and we're going to throw it over the fence so he can run.

PAT: And what a disservice to the kids. Then they don't know what to swing at, what not to swing at. What are you teaching them?

GLENN: How do you teach them?

PAT: You can't. You can't.

GLENN: They are teaching our children. I mean, look, children want rules. They need patterns, they need rules, they need structure. We're taking every piece of things that they can count on. Strike zone.

PAT: Taking it away.

GLENN: Take it away.

PAT: Yeah.

GLENN: How do you function in a world where you don't know what's coming next? You know, that was a strike now but two innings before, it wasn't a strike.

PAT: And last night at the playoffs, our last playoff game because we lost —

GLENN: You lost?

PAT: They actually kept score.

GLENN: Did you get a trophy?

PAT: I think they are planning those.

GLENN: I think that is good.

PAT: We won't be receiving one at our house.

GLENN: I like to call them loser trophies.

PAT: Yes. Yes, they like to call it a participation trophy.

GLENN: You are a big fat loser.

PAT: But last —

GLENN: Here's your trophy.

PAT: Last night the kids, you know, are told to get into it and cheer on their teammate, you know, so there's a lot of chatter. Chatter it up, guys, I don't hear you. So the coach will often chide the kids to encourage their teammate who's at bat. And so last night they were doing that and this kid named Nick was up and they are going, come on, Nick, let's go! And the pitcher throws the ball and the umpire stops and he says, "Hey, kids, kids, kids, that's fine until the pitcher goes into his windup. Then I want you to be quiet." What? Where did that stinky rule come? You can't cheer on your teammate anymore while the pitcher is throwing the ball? Since when? Since when? So now you are even squelching them cheering on their teammates if the opposing pitcher is throwing. I mean, what is —

GLENN: Who was it that was telling me that they had an experience at school where their child, you know, lost some academic thing and, you know, some kid gets up and they are like, hey! You know, look at me, I am the king of the smart world. And they have a big assembly for it and gets a trophy and, you know, everything else. Then it comes to baseball. Now, this kid is a Brainiac but a loser on the field, okay? And, you know, people have different talents.

PAT: Yeah.

GLENN: It's me. I'm a loser on the field and a loser in the Brainiac at the present time, too. I never got any trophy for anything. But anyway, so this guy was telling me yesterday that that parent, who was the first to stand up and say, Johnny got a trophy! Actually stood up in the baseball meeting and said, we're not keeping score, are we?

PAT: Oh, my gosh.

GLENN: He said, I walked up to him and said, excuse me? Excuse me? It's fine when your son gets the trophy in the smart division and we go and we stand and we applaud for your child. But when our child can kick your kid's butt in this arena, you don't want to keep score.

PAT: So typical.

GLENN: It is. It is.

PAT: It is so typical.

GLENN: So here is my challenge to Pat and my challenge to every man, woman and child in this country: Stop it! Take the trophy and put the trophy some place where the sun doesn't shine like a closet. Don't accept any more of these trophies. Stand up against these trophies! Don't — look, Pat said to me, "Glenn, if I stand up, then my son's going to have problems." I said, you know what, Pat? Start your own damn league. Because you can't be alone! We're all — we're doing the same thing that that — here's the next project for 9/12. You want to take this on, 9/12ers? Competition. Sports. Competition. Principles and values. Start a 9/12 baseball league! Forget the stupid little league. If this is the game they want to play in your state — now, it's different. Like in Texas, I mean, you know, you are lucky they are not carrying pistols down on the —

PAT: I mean, sometimes they are.

GLENN: Right. So I mean, it's like —

PAT: I think some of the kids are armed, and that's okay.

GLENN: Yeah. So it's not like this everywhere, but in New England it is. And you cannot be alone. What are you teaching your kids? You are teaching your kids to just be quiet. Okay, and justice happens, just be quiet. Don't teach your children that! It is how you play the game. Well, how are they playing the game? They are playing the game without any reason, without any kind of competition. Do you want to play that kind of game? Just tell your kids to go out and get a bunch of friends and go play in the park, go play a baseball game in the park. That's better for them than the participation in the destruction of competition! What the hell are — you know what? You go send your money and go buy a big statue of Stalin and put it in your park. I don't — that's what you want to do? You go ahead and do that. You go play that little competition. We're going to start our own baseball league that believes in competition. We're going to teach sportsmanship because the coaches are going to say, hey! Knock it off; be a good winner. Knock it off; be a good loser. You are going to push your kid into not being those out of control parents. This league would be a league that the coaches would also say, "Hey, fathead, I'm going to kick your kid off the team if you don't relax." That's the way it happens. Now, when we arrived in this world and all of us are just like, we're just, we're like sheep in a train car, just being led to slaughter. Excuse me. No. I would really like to see somebody stand up, Pat Gray, in a state — Connecticut — and see if there's anybody else that feels like this. Start a new league! Who cares! Oh, well, it's not little league. Who cares! Isn't it about, A, having fun and, B, teaching values and principles? Well, what the hell are you doing? Are you having fun? Not keeping score? Are you teaching values and principles that you agree with?

PAT: No.

GLENN: Get the hell out!

PAT: Glenn Beck tells people to get out of their baseball leagues!

GLENN: Yes! I am.

PAT: (Laughing).

GLENN: And go play baseball, go play baseball with Jim Wallis. It will be great. Jesus is keeping score. You don't have to. Oh, yes, Jim. He is keeping score. But you shouldn't.

Constituting America Mission Statement

The American Constitution, signed on September 17, 1787, is as great a miracle as the ultimate victory from the British in 1782. Providence prevailed in both theatres. It was a monumental feat to beat the British in the Revolutionary War. Equally as awesome was the accomplishment of finding common ground amongst the varied American beliefs in writing the Constitution. Though our forefathers differed, they united in their mission, their vision: A republic; a democracy; America, the beautiful; America, the hope.

The American Constitution was the work of brilliant men with a vast knowledge of history and a thirst for righteousness. They believed that in order for American liberty to survive, her people must be educated. To quote John Adams, “Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge of the people.”

The Overton Window: political thriller

The Overton Window, a rip-roaring read of the first order, is as good a political thriller as you're going to find this year."

The Overton Window

Product Description
A plan to destroy America, a hundred years in the making, is about to be unleashed . . . can it be stopped?

There is a powerful technique called the Overton Window that can shape our lives, our laws, and our future.

Smart, single, handsome, and insulated from the world's problems by the wealth and power of his father, Noah is far more concerned about the future of his social life than the future of his country.

But all of that changes when Noah meets Molly Ross, a woman who is consumed by the knowledge that the America we know is about to be lost forever. She and her group of patriots have vowed to remember the past and fight for the future--but Noah, convinced they're just misguided conspiracy-theorists, isn't interested in lending his considerable skills to their cause.

And then the world changes.

An unprecedented attack on U.S. soil shakes the country to the core and puts into motion a frightening plan, decades in the making, to transform America and demonize all those who stand in the way. Amidst the chaos, many don't know the difference between conspiracy theory and conspiracy fact--or, more important, which side to fight for.

But for Noah, the choice is clear: Exposing the plan, and revealing the conspirators behind it, is the only way to save both the woman he loves and the individual freedoms he once took for granted.

After five back-to-back #1 New York Times bestsellers, national radio and Fox News television host Glenn Beck has delivered a ripped-from-the-headlines thriller that seamlessly weaves together American history, frightening facts about our present condition, and a heart-stopping plot. The Overton Window will educate, enlighten, and, most important, entertain--with twists and revelations
no one will see coming.

The Road to Serfdom: Text and Documents--The Definitive Edition

The Road to Serfdom: Text and Documents--The Definitive Edition

Editorial Reviews /Product Description

An unimpeachable classic work in political philosophy, intellectual and cultural history, and economics, The Road to Serfdom has inspired and infuriated politicians, scholars, and general readers for half a century. Originally published in 1944—when Eleanor Roosevelt supported the efforts of Stalin, and Albert Einstein subscribed lock, stock, and barrel to the socialist program—The Road to Serfdom was seen as heretical for its passionate warning against the dangers of state control over the means of production. For F. A. Hayek, the collectivist idea of empowering government with increasing economic control would lead not to a utopia but to the horrors of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.

First published by the University of Chicago Press on September 18, 1944, The Road to Serfdom garnered immediate, widespread attention. The first printing of 2,000 copies was exhausted instantly, and within six months more than 30,000 books were sold. In April 1945, Reader’s Digest published a condensed version of the book, and soon thereafter the Book-of-the-Month Club distributed this edition to more than 600,000 readers. A perennial best seller, the book has sold 400,000 copies in the United States alone and has been translated into more than twenty languages, along the way becoming one of the most important and influential books of the century.

With this new edition, The Road to Serfdom takes its place in the series The Collected Works of F. A. Hayek. The volume includes a foreword by series editor and leading Hayek scholar Bruce Caldwell explaining the book's origins and publishing history and assessing common misinterpretations of Hayek's thought. Caldwell has also standardized and corrected Hayek's references and added helpful new explanatory notes. Supplemented with an appendix of related materials ranging from prepublication reports on the initial manuscript to forewords to earlier editions by John Chamberlain, Milton Friedman, and Hayek himself, this new edition of The Road to Serfdom will be the definitive version of Friedrich Hayek's enduring masterwork
