ICE to offer offer fresh carrots and bingo nights to illegals ?
U.S. mulls less jail-like immigrant facilities
SAN ANTONIO - In an agreement U.S. immigration officials hope will begin to reshape the entire 30,000-bed detention system, some asylum-seekers and immigrants awaiting deportation proceedings could soon be held in facilities where they can wear their own clothes, participate in movie and bingo nights, eat continental breakfasts, and celebrate holidays with visiting family members.
It could end confinement in prison-like facilities - complete with razor wire, jail-style uniforms,
armed guards and partitions that prevent physical contact with loved ones - for those who
have never been convicted of a crime and are not considered a threat.
Corrections Corporation of America, the largest contractor for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has reached a preliminary agreement to soften confinement, free of charge, at nine immigrant facilities
covering more than 7,100 beds - a deal that ICE officials see as a precursor to changes elsewhere.
Overall, the facilities are expected to be less prison-like, offering freer movement for detainees, fewer pat downs and better access to legal resources. The agreement calls for fresh vegetables and access
to self-serve beverages along with cooking and exercise classes, according to a list released by ICE.
CCA will soften "the look for the facility with hanging plants, flower baskets, new paint colors, different bedding and furniture" and allow lengthy visits from friends and family who can provide outside packages
or food for special celebrations under changes to be made over the next six months.
ICE Director John Morton announced last year that the agency would make detention facilities less prison-like because immigrant detainees are being held on civil immigration charges,
not criminal offenses, though it was unclear at the time what changes would be made. The agency has long maintained that detention is not a punishment and that it ensures the immigrants show up for hearings. Nonetheless, it has relied heavily on contract facilities built to house criminals.
Negotiations continue with the remainder of the nearly 300 facilities under contract with ICE, mostly facilities owned by state and local governments, but "it's our goal to provide these types of reforms with all the facilities that ICE contracts with," said ICE spokesman Brian Hale.
ICE wants to create a less restrictive environment for those who are low-risk and not criminals, but those with criminal histories or who are otherwise a danger will remain in prison-like settings, he said.
New systemwide detention standards are still being drafted, but the agreement with CCA signals the less-restrictive modifications the agency wants for many detainees.
Union leaders representing guards object to the new plans, saying they're dangerous.
"It's absolutely insane, the changes they're making," said Chris Crane, president of AFGE Council 118/ICE, the union that represents 7,000 ICE officers but not the contractors.
"It just makes for an absolutely unsafe environment, not only for the detainees, but for the officers."
He contends that many detainees could be drug dealers or gang members - even if they haven't been convicted.
A 2009 review by The Associated Press of everyone in custody nationwide on a single night found that nearly three-fifths of detainees had no criminal convictions, even for minor offenses such as trespassing. Many are held only a few nights before being deported, while others - particularly those seeking asylum from persecution in their home countries -
an stay in custody for months or years while their cases are decided by an overburdened immigration court system.
Nearly 10,200 foreigners were granted asylum after going through immigration courts in fiscal year 2009.
But Crane said that doesn't mean detainees aren't criminals or gang members since local prosecutors, lacking resources, sometimes just dump "criminal aliens" into ICE custody.
"Does that mean you can't treat people humanely? Absolutely not," he said. "But we need to talk about the circumstances that these detainees were put in custody."
Ira Mehlman, spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which advocates tougher immigration enforcement, said plans to soften the look of facilities, particularly those that house families,
are appropriate. But he's concerned the changes, like cooking and exercise classes, go too far.
"From this memo, it sounds like they're turning them into Club Med," Mehlman said.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, raised similar concerns in a letter to ICE officials last week, saying softening the facilities - even for low-risk detainees - creates a "moral hazard."
Immigrant advocates object to the plans, too, but for another reason: they don't go far enough.
"They're really coming up with very minimal changes," said Andrea Black of the Detention Watch Network.
Most of the low-risk detainees who might get softened facilities shouldn't be detained at all, especially when less expensive electronic monitoring is available, she said.
"We're still talking about people being in detention for years on end," said Black. "This is their response? To offer fresh carrots and bingo nights?"

OBAMA VS. PRESS FREEDOM by Dick Morris
By DICK MORRIS
Jon Leibowitz, the chairman of Obama's Federal Trade Commission, is at the epicenter of a quiet movement to subsidize news organizations, a first step toward government control of the media. In our book, 2010: Take Back America -- A Battle Plan, we reported that he had commissioned a study to examine plans for a federal subsidy for news organizations. Among the measures under consideration are special tax treatment, exemption from antitrust laws and changes in copyright laws.
Now Leibowitz has begun to pounce. A May 24 working paper on "reinventing" the media proposes that the government impose fees on websites such as the Drudge Report that link to news websites or that it tax consumer electronics such as iPads, laptops and Kindles. Funds raised by these levies would be redistributed to traditional media outlets.
While Leibowitz distanced himself from the proposals for the taxes, calling them "a terrible idea," his comments appear to be related only to the levies proposed in the working paper. Nobody is commenting on the other part of his proposal -- a subsidy for news organizations.
By now, the Obama MO should be clear to all. As he has done with the banks, AIG and the car companies, he extends his left hand offering subsidies and then proffers his right laden with regulations. Should the government follow through on Leibowitz's ideas and enact special subsidies and tax breaks for news organizations, it will induce a degree of journalistic dependence on the whims of government not seen since the days when the early presidents bestowed government advertising on favored periodicals.
Is it too difficult to imagine that the Democrats might pass laws favoring news organizations, only to question -- as former White House communications director Anita Dunn did -- whether or not Fox News is a news organization or an "arm of the Republican Party"? We can see a future in which news media are reluctant to be too partisan or opinionated for fear that they would endanger their public subsidy.
Once such a subsidy is extended to news organizations, every company in the business must have it. Otherwise, the competitive advantage for the subsidized companies would prove too steep an obstacle to overcome.
In all the attention that has been given to the idea of an Internet tax on news aggregation sites and on tech equipment -- trial balloons that would obviously be shot down -- very little attention has been focused on the expenditure side of the proposal -- the subsidy of news organizations.
But The Wall Street Journal reported six months ago that Leibowitz had commissioned a study to determine "whether the government should aid struggling news organizations which are suffering from a collapse in advertising revenues as the Internet upends their centuries-old business model." Among the steps under consideration are changing "the way the industry is regulated, from making news-gathering companies exempt from antitrust laws to granting them special tax treatment to making changes to copyright laws."
These are exactly the kind of subsidies that could and would trigger government oversight and control.
Look at how radio stations squirm when their licenses are up for renewal before the FCC. We can imagine news organizations pulling their punches in order not to antagonize the hand that feeds them.
The Leibowitz study, and the subsidy proposals that are likely to emerge from it, represent a chilling threat to the First Amendment and to our civil liberties.

Seven Events That Made America America
By Larry Schweikart
From the Publisher
A conservative historian examines some of the pivotal, yet often ignored, moments that shaped our history
All students of American history know the big events that dramatically shaped our country. The Civil War, Pearl Harbor, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and 9/11 are just a few.
But there are other, less famous events that had an equally profound impact. Notable conservative historian Larry Schweikart takes an in- depth look at seven of these transformative moments and provides an analysis of how each of them spurred a trend that either confirmed or departed from the vision our Founding Fathers had for America. For instance, he shows how Martin Van Buren’s creation of a national political party made it possible for Obama to get elected almost two centuries later and how Dwight Eisenhower’s heart attack led to a war on red meat, during which the government took control over Americans’ diets.
Seven Events That Made America America: And Proved That the Founding Fathers Were Right All Along
In his easy-to-read yet informative style, Schweikart will not only educate but also surprise readers into reevaluating our history.
About the Author
Larry Schweikart is the author of 48 Liberal Lies About American History and the coauthor of A Patriot’s History of the United States. A professor of history at the University of Dayton, he has appeared as a guest commentator on Fox & Friends and written more than twenty books on national defense, business, and financial history. He lives in Ohio.

Your tax $$ at work, Pelosi's New Office Costs $18K a Month
Pelosi's New District Office Costs $18,736 a Month
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's district office in the new federal building in San Francisco costs a whopping $18,736 a month -- the highest paid rental by any member of the House.
San Francisco is a high-rent city. Just ask Nancy Pelosi.
The House Speaker's district office in the new federal building in San Francisco costs a whopping $18,736 a month -- the highest rental paid by any member of the House -- or, more precisely, the highest rental paid by taxpayers on behalf of a member of the House. The rental price was reported by Roll Call on Monday.
The Democratic congresswoman moved last fall from her old office in the Burton Federal Building, which she occupied for 20 years, to a "greener" space in the city's new federal building -- a move and a high price that her spokesman, Drew Hammill, says was amply justified.

Term Limits by Vince Flynn as mentioned on Glenn Beck show
Term Limits hit the New York Times bestseller list in paperback and started a trend for all of Flynn's novels. Since then, his books have become perennial bestsellers in both paperback and hardcover, and he has become known for his research and prescient warnings about the rise of Islamic Radical Fundamentalism and terrorism. Read by current and former presidents, foreign heads of state, and intelligence professionals around the world, Flynn's novels are taken so seriously one high-ranking CIA official told his people, "I want you to read Flynn's books and start thinking about how we can more effectively wage this war on terror."
October 2007 marked another milestone in Flynn's career when his ninth political thriller, Protect and Defend, became a #1 New York Times bestseller. A few months later, CBS Films optioned the rights for Flynn's Mitch Rapp character with the intention of creating a character-based, action-thriller movie franchise. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who previously launched the Harry Potter and Matrix films as head of production at Warner Bros., and Nick Wechsler (We Own the Night, Reservation Road) will produce the films.

are we on the "The Road to Serfdom" ?
GLENN BECK, HOST: Today, we're talking about the book "The Road to Serfdom." F.A. Hayek published it in the 1940s. And, you know, I don't have a warning label for it. But total government could lead to a loss of freedom. And that's what it should say right on the cover.
Hayek pointed out that total government needed propaganda and somebody to blame as a scapegoat those people. But the good news is we don't ever do that, right?

Glenn Beck: Why Canada sucks...........
GLENN: From Canada, the Canadian youth soccer league is taking heat now after introducing a new rule that says any team that wins a game by more than five points will lose the game by default. The rule intended to foster sportsmanship. Excuse me?
PAT: Oh, my gosh.
GLENN: No, sportsmanship is we just kicked your…*** but we're not going to say it.
PAT: Right, right.
GLENN: We're not going to rub your nose in it.
PAT: Yes, yes.
GLENN: You played a good game, we played a good game. When I get my butt kicked, I'm going to go over and shake your hand and say...
PAT: Nice game, good game.
GLENN: You guys were unbelievable.
GLENN: You guys wiped our face in the dirt.
PAT: But I'll tell you something, we're coming back after you next time.
GLENN: That's sportsmanship!
PAT: Yeah.
GLENN: That's sportsmanship.
PAT: Yeah.
GLENN: This is, not to teach sportsmanship, this is to reprogram our children to not understand competition and also to have them grow in acceptance, kind of a dead inside kind of feeling of redistribution of wealth.
PAT: And redistribution of points.
GLENN: That's exactly it. That's what it is.
PAT: I mean, you have too many points, we're going to give them to the other team and they are going to win.
GLENN: Hang on just a second. You are going to go into a company and you are going to wipe out your competition? No, no, no, no, no. No. You can have too much. You can have too much. That's what they are teaching our children. You can have too much. You don't go in to compete and wipe your competition out, fairly, without malice in your heart, legally, no, no. You go in and you can compete, but not too much. Not too hard.
PAT: But didn't Obama say that recently?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I want to be clear.
PAT: I think he's clear.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: We're not trying to push financial reform.
PAT: No, no.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Because we begrudge success that's fairly earned.
PAT: No.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money.
GLENN: Money, there you go.
PAT: At a certain point you've made too much money, at a certain point you've scored too many points. So what's the difference? We are just, we are teaching our kids to be losers.
GLENN: Yes. Yes, we are. And Pat, if you don't start a Connecticut —
PAT: I've got to do it.
GLENN: — baseball league for youth
GLENN: Because if you don't do it, I'm going to do it because my son's 5 and he's going to T ball, which I need help. I don't even know where — do you look that up in the phone book, what do you —
PAT: Yes, it's under T.
GLENN: Really?
PAT: No.
GLENN: I don't even know. No idea.
PAT: No.
GLENN: My wife said, we've got to get Raphe registered, you know, for T ball next year, blah, blah blah and, you know, got to get him — and I'm like...
PAT: Don't know where —
GLENN: Are you talking to me? Because I don't — I have no idea how you would do that.
PAT: Yeah, I could help with that. I can help with that.
GLENN: So anyway, but I'm not putting my kid through a sports program like the one your kids are in. It's a nightmare.
PAT: Well, it will start out, I will caution you now T ball will start out that way, and it does everywhere.
GLENN: Look, my son is 5.
PAT: That's okay when they are 5 or 6.
GLENN: You go out and hit the ball.
PAT: Exactly. I mean, they just learning the basics. When they are 12 like my son this year and they are playing majors little league —
GLENN: Rip their guts out on the field!
PAT: Exactly, exactly. But my wuss cake league in this stupid Connecticut town.
GLENN: I can't do it.
PAT: No standings kept during the course of the year. Then I find out they don't even keep scores during the games because they want all teams to be equal at the end of the year, until we go into the playoffs.
GLENN: I asked Pat the other day, he said, we're going into the playoffs. I said, how do you know who's in the playoffs? You haven't kept score!
PAT: Yeah, I know. Everybody goes into the playoffs, everybody. And I found out some other things, too, during the course of the year from standing behind the — I usually stand right behind home plate behind the fence there so — because it's the best vantage point to watch my son at bat and so the umpire sometimes comes over, I hear him say certain things to the kids and it's fascinating because he's called kids out. I was at one of the games and the — this strike zone was different late in the game than it was early in the game, which is, it completely screws up the kids. And I made an audible noise like, "What?" On one of the calls that he made. Like strike 3 and it was low and outside.
GLENN: I saw one of these. It was amazing.
PAT: Unbelievable.
GLENN: I'm like, I know nothing, I know nothing about baseball but I was standing behind the umpire, too He said, strike 2!
PAT: You knew better.
GLENN: And I said, in what world was that a strike
PAT: So he walks over to me and he says, yeah, to fit the game in the time limit, sometimes I have to call strikes that really aren't strikes.
GLENN: They have —
PAT: To move the game along.
GLENN: They have a time limit.
PAT: What?
GLENN: A time limit.
PAT: There's no time limit in baseball.
GLENN: Yes, there is when you are not keeping score. How do you know when it's over? My question is I'd like to know if you are not keeping score, why are we calling strikes and balls? Why are we doing that? Why doesn't —
PAT: Too sensitive.
GLENN: "Hey, Johnny, your turn, come on. Keep pitching the ball until I hits it over the fence and gets a home run." I mean, you don't — why? Just keep going. Just keep going and everybody gets it. And if he can't hit the ball, well, then we're going to pick it up and we're going to throw it over the fence so he can run.
PAT: And what a disservice to the kids. Then they don't know what to swing at, what not to swing at. What are you teaching them?
GLENN: How do you teach them?
PAT: You can't. You can't.
GLENN: They are teaching our children. I mean, look, children want rules. They need patterns, they need rules, they need structure. We're taking every piece of things that they can count on. Strike zone.
PAT: Taking it away.
GLENN: Take it away.
PAT: Yeah.
GLENN: How do you function in a world where you don't know what's coming next? You know, that was a strike now but two innings before, it wasn't a strike.
PAT: And last night at the playoffs, our last playoff game because we lost —
GLENN: You lost?
PAT: They actually kept score.
GLENN: Did you get a trophy?
PAT: I think they are planning those.
GLENN: I think that is good.
PAT: We won't be receiving one at our house.
GLENN: I like to call them loser trophies.
PAT: Yes. Yes, they like to call it a participation trophy.
GLENN: You are a big fat loser.
PAT: But last —
GLENN: Here's your trophy.
PAT: Last night the kids, you know, are told to get into it and cheer on their teammate, you know, so there's a lot of chatter. Chatter it up, guys, I don't hear you. So the coach will often chide the kids to encourage their teammate who's at bat. And so last night they were doing that and this kid named Nick was up and they are going, come on, Nick, let's go! And the pitcher throws the ball and the umpire stops and he says, "Hey, kids, kids, kids, that's fine until the pitcher goes into his windup. Then I want you to be quiet." What? Where did that stinky rule come? You can't cheer on your teammate anymore while the pitcher is throwing the ball? Since when? Since when? So now you are even squelching them cheering on their teammates if the opposing pitcher is throwing. I mean, what is —
GLENN: Who was it that was telling me that they had an experience at school where their child, you know, lost some academic thing and, you know, some kid gets up and they are like, hey! You know, look at me, I am the king of the smart world. And they have a big assembly for it and gets a trophy and, you know, everything else. Then it comes to baseball. Now, this kid is a Brainiac but a loser on the field, okay? And, you know, people have different talents.
PAT: Yeah.
GLENN: It's me. I'm a loser on the field and a loser in the Brainiac at the present time, too. I never got any trophy for anything. But anyway, so this guy was telling me yesterday that that parent, who was the first to stand up and say, Johnny got a trophy! Actually stood up in the baseball meeting and said, we're not keeping score, are we?
PAT: Oh, my gosh.
GLENN: He said, I walked up to him and said, excuse me? Excuse me? It's fine when your son gets the trophy in the smart division and we go and we stand and we applaud for your child. But when our child can kick your kid's butt in this arena, you don't want to keep score.
PAT: So typical.
GLENN: It is. It is.
PAT: It is so typical.
GLENN: So here is my challenge to Pat and my challenge to every man, woman and child in this country: Stop it! Take the trophy and put the trophy some place where the sun doesn't shine like a closet. Don't accept any more of these trophies. Stand up against these trophies! Don't — look, Pat said to me, "Glenn, if I stand up, then my son's going to have problems." I said, you know what, Pat? Start your own damn league. Because you can't be alone! We're all — we're doing the same thing that that — here's the next project for 9/12. You want to take this on, 9/12ers? Competition. Sports. Competition. Principles and values. Start a 9/12 baseball league! Forget the stupid little league. If this is the game they want to play in your state — now, it's different. Like in Texas, I mean, you know, you are lucky they are not carrying pistols down on the —
PAT: I mean, sometimes they are.
GLENN: Right. So I mean, it's like —
PAT: I think some of the kids are armed, and that's okay.
GLENN: Yeah. So it's not like this everywhere, but in New England it is. And you cannot be alone. What are you teaching your kids? You are teaching your kids to just be quiet. Okay, and justice happens, just be quiet. Don't teach your children that! It is how you play the game. Well, how are they playing the game? They are playing the game without any reason, without any kind of competition. Do you want to play that kind of game? Just tell your kids to go out and get a bunch of friends and go play in the park, go play a baseball game in the park. That's better for them than the participation in the destruction of competition! What the hell are — you know what? You go send your money and go buy a big statue of Stalin and put it in your park. I don't — that's what you want to do? You go ahead and do that. You go play that little competition. We're going to start our own baseball league that believes in competition. We're going to teach sportsmanship because the coaches are going to say, hey! Knock it off; be a good winner. Knock it off; be a good loser. You are going to push your kid into not being those out of control parents. This league would be a league that the coaches would also say, "Hey, fathead, I'm going to kick your kid off the team if you don't relax." That's the way it happens. Now, when we arrived in this world and all of us are just like, we're just, we're like sheep in a train car, just being led to slaughter. Excuse me. No. I would really like to see somebody stand up, Pat Gray, in a state — Connecticut — and see if there's anybody else that feels like this. Start a new league! Who cares! Oh, well, it's not little league. Who cares! Isn't it about, A, having fun and, B, teaching values and principles? Well, what the hell are you doing? Are you having fun? Not keeping score? Are you teaching values and principles that you agree with?
PAT: No.
GLENN: Get the hell out!
PAT: Glenn Beck tells people to get out of their baseball leagues!
GLENN: Yes! I am.
PAT: (Laughing).
GLENN: And go play baseball, go play baseball with Jim Wallis. It will be great. Jesus is keeping score. You don't have to. Oh, yes, Jim. He is keeping score. But you shouldn't.

Constituting America
Constituting America Mission Statement
The American Constitution, signed on September 17, 1787, is as great a miracle as the ultimate victory from the British in 1782. Providence prevailed in both theatres. It was a monumental feat to beat the British in the Revolutionary War. Equally as awesome was the accomplishment of finding common ground amongst the varied American beliefs in writing the Constitution. Though our forefathers differed, they united in their mission, their vision: A republic; a democracy; America, the beautiful; America, the hope.
The American Constitution was the work of brilliant men with a vast knowledge of history and a thirst for righteousness. They believed that in order for American liberty to survive, her people must be educated. To quote John Adams, “Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge of the people.”

The Overton Window: political thriller
The Overton Window
Product Description
A plan to destroy America, a hundred years in the making, is about to be unleashed . . . can it be stopped?
There is a powerful technique called the Overton Window that can shape our lives, our laws, and our future. It works by manipulating public perception so that ideas previously thought of as radical begin to seem acceptable over time. Move the Window and you change the debate. Change the debate and you change the country.
For Noah Gardner, a twenty something public relations executive, it's safe to say that political theory is the furthest thing from his mind. Smart, single, handsome, and insulated from the world's problems by the wealth and power of his father, Noah is far more concerned about the future of his social life than the future of his country.
But all of that changes when Noah meets Molly Ross, a woman who is consumed by the knowledge that the America we know is about to be lost forever. She and her group of patriots have vowed to remember the past and fight for the future--but Noah, convinced they're just misguided conspiracy-theorists, isn't interested in lending his considerable skills to their cause.
And then the world changes.
An unprecedented attack on U.S. soil shakes the country to the core and puts into motion a frightening plan, decades in the making, to transform America and demonize all those who stand in the way. Amidst the chaos, many don't know the difference between conspiracy theory and conspiracy fact--or, more important, which side to fight for.
But for Noah, the choice is clear: Exposing the plan, and revealing the conspirators behind it, is the only way to save both the woman he loves and the individual freedoms he once took for granted.
After five back-to-back #1 New York Times bestsellers, national radio and Fox News television host Glenn Beck has delivered a ripped-from-the-headlines thriller that seamlessly weaves together American history, frightening facts about our present condition, and a heart-stopping plot. The Overton Window will educate, enlighten, and, most important, entertain--with twists and revelations
no one will see coming.

The Road to Serfdom: Text and Documents--The Definitive Edition
Editorial Reviews /Product Description
An unimpeachable classic work in political philosophy, intellectual and cultural history, and economics, The Road to Serfdom has inspired and infuriated politicians, scholars, and general readers for half a century. Originally published in 1944—when Eleanor Roosevelt supported the efforts of Stalin, and Albert Einstein subscribed lock, stock, and barrel to the socialist program—The Road to Serfdom was seen as heretical for its passionate warning against the dangers of state control over the means of production. For F. A. Hayek, the collectivist idea of empowering government with increasing economic control would lead not to a utopia but to the horrors of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.
First published by the University of Chicago Press on September 18, 1944, The Road to Serfdom garnered immediate, widespread attention. The first printing of 2,000 copies was exhausted instantly, and within six months more than 30,000 books were sold. In April 1945, Reader’s Digest published a condensed version of the book, and soon thereafter the Book-of-the-Month Club distributed this edition to more than 600,000 readers. A perennial best seller, the book has sold 400,000 copies in the United States alone and has been translated into more than twenty languages, along the way becoming one of the most important and influential books of the century.
With this new edition, The Road to Serfdom takes its place in the series The Collected Works of F. A. Hayek. The volume includes a foreword by series editor and leading Hayek scholar Bruce Caldwell explaining the book's origins and publishing history and assessing common misinterpretations of Hayek's thought. Caldwell has also standardized and corrected Hayek's references and added helpful new explanatory notes. Supplemented with an appendix of related materials ranging from prepublication reports on the initial manuscript to forewords to earlier editions by John Chamberlain, Milton Friedman, and Hayek himself, this new edition of The Road to Serfdom will be the definitive version of Friedrich Hayek's enduring masterwork

Obama as lawyer in chief, after 2012 maybe he should pursue a legal career ?
I think he missed his calling, he's not a problem solver/leader.
Seems like he more interested in generating legal paperwork than solving problems.

Obama and comrades challenge old AZ law against hiring illegals
The Obama administration is asking the Supreme Court to overturn an appeals court decision that upheld Arizona's right to punish employers for hiring illegal immigrants.
The Obama administration is asking the Supreme Court to overturn an appeals court decision
that upheld Arizona's right to punish employers for hiring illegal immigrants.
The Arizona law gives the state the right to suspend or terminate business licenses.
"If you hire a person in this country illegally knowingly, you'll lose your license.
First offense, 10 days. Second offense, revocation, never to do business in the state of Arizona again,"said Arizona state Sen. Russell Pearce, a Republican who helped draft the new controversial Arizona law that cracks down on illegal immigrants.
The Obama administration apparently worries letting that law stand would leave in place a precedent that states have a legitimate role in enforcing immigration laws a notion the administration fiercely opposes.
"The argument that the Justice Department is making here, is you know, the fundamental question, which is where does state authority begin and end when it comes to federal immigration law?" said Benjamin Johnson, executive director of the American Immigration Council.
The Arizona statue relies on a law passed by the U.S. Congress in 1986, which made clear federal law preempts the states on immigration – but left one exception: "The provisions of this section preempt any state or local law imposing civil or criminal sanctions (other than through licensing and similar laws) upon those who employ unauthorized aliens."
"Congress said very clearly that licensing and similar laws can be used to impose consequences on employers who hire unauthorized aliens at the state level," said Kris Kobach, a law professor at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. "And that's exactly what Arizona did."
Oddly enough, the law in question was signed in 2007 by then-Gov. Janet Napolitano,
now Obama's Homeland Security secretary.
Not only that, but the law was upheld by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.
"And bear in mind that 9th Circuit is generally regarded as one of the more liberal circuits in the United States – and so the Obama administration, evidently, believes that the 9th Circuit views on this question is too conservative for this administration," Kobach said.
And this is yet another issue in the ongoing tug of war between Washington and the states, especially Arizona.
"The idea that states can't be involved in immigration law in any way is wrong," Johnson said. "The states have always had a role to play in immigration enforcement.
The tricky part is defining where that authority begins and ends."

Virginia's illegal immigrants law almost identical to Arizona SB 1070
Three year old law in Virginia targets illegal immigrants much like Arizona's SB 1070

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA (KOLD) - For the last three years, a county in Virginia has remained under the radar in the immigration debate even though it has a law almost identical to Arizona's immigration law.
The ordinance in Prince William County was passed in 2007. It initially required police to check the status of detainees they suspected of being undocumented immigrants but one year later it was revised.
Officers now question all criminal suspects about their immigration status once an arrest is made.
In 2008, the University of Virginia conducted a survey to see what effects, if any, the Prince William County law had. It concluded initial fears about racial profiling did not happen.
It also show that schools saw a drop in English as a second language enrollment. There was also a drop in uninsured mothers giving birth and individuals turned over to immigration and customs enforcement.

that's how that motherfucker Rahm Emanuel got that $320K Freddie Mac job!
didn't Rahm Israel Emanuel work at Freddie Mac?
Emanuel was named to the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation
(Freddie Mac) by President Bill Clinton in 2000. His position earned him at least $320,000,
including later stock sales.[31][32] He was not assigned to any of the board's working
committees, and the Board met no more than six times per year.[32]
During his time on the board, Freddie Mac was plagued with scandals involving campaign
contributions and accounting irregularities.[32][33] The Obama Administration rejected
a request under the Freedom of Information Act to review Freddie Mac board minutes and
correspondence during Emanuel's time as a director.[32]
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) later accused the board
of having "failed in its duty to follow up on matters brought to its attention."
Emanuel resigned from the board in 2001 when he ran for Congress.[34]

Anthony Weiner attacks Goldline, Glenn Beck and other hosts
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) Claiming that precious metal peddler Goldline uses conservative broadcast talkers to whip audiences into a frenzy about upcoming financial catastrophe and then sells them gold as a hedge, at inflated prices,
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) is calling for investigations by the SEC and the FTC. Although several personalities are named, TV/radio talker Glenn Beck is Weiner’s prime target.
Naming names: According to a report released by Weiner, “Fred Thompson, Dennis Miller, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Lars Larson, Michael Smerconish, Monica Crowley and Mike Huckabee are all paid spokespeople for Goldline.” Beck was a spokesperson too, but had to relinquish that role to conform to Fox News policy, but Goldline remains a major advertiser on his FNC program.
According to the report, “On numerous occasions, Glenn Beck has dedicated entire segments of his program to explaining why the U.S. money supply is destined for hyperinflation with Barack Obama as president. He will often promote the purchase of gold as the only safe investment alternative for consumers who want to safeguard their livelihoods. When the show cuts to commercial break, viewers are treated to an advertisement from Goldline.”
Weiner commented, “Goldline rips off consumers, uses misleading and possibly illegal sales tactics, and deliberately manipulates public fears of an impending government takeover – this is a trifecta of terrible business practices. It’s unacceptable that this company is preying on public fears to sell its products.”

Pennsylvania legislators hope to mirror Arizona's immigration bill
HARRISBURG -- State Reps. Daryl Metcalfe and Harry Readshaw think Pennsylvania
should follow Arizona's lead and "protect its borders and citizens" by giving
local and state police more power to arrest, detain and eventually deport foreigners
who have entered the state illegally and don't have proper registration papers.
Mr. Metcalfe, R-Cranberry, Mr. Readshaw, D-Carrick, and several other legislators
Tuesday promoted House Bill 2479, which would direct a police officer
"to attempt to verify the immigration status of suspected illegal aliens."
However, an officer could not stop a suspected illegal immigrant without reason
-- as critics of the new Arizona law have claimed, Mr.
Metcalfe said. An officer would have to have a reason for checking
a suspected illegal alien's papers, such as if the alien was driving
too fast, ran a red light or was arrested for a break-in.

And the #1 recipient of BP political contributions is...
Obama biggest recipient of BP cash
While the BP oil geyser pumps millions of gallons of petroleum into the Gulf of Mexico, President Barack Obama and members of Congress may have to answer
for the millions in campaign contributions they’ve taken
from the oil and gas giant over the years.
BP and its employees have given more than $3.5 million to federal candidates over the past 20 years, with the largest chunk of their money going to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
Donations come from a mix of employees and the company’s political action committees
— $2.89 million flowed to campaigns from BP-related PACs and about $638,000 came from individuals.
On top of that, the oil giant has spent millions each year on lobbying
including $15.9 million last year alone — as it has tried to influence energy policy.
During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received
a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and
individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records.
An Obama spokesman rejected the notion that the president took big oil money.

cleaning up Washington, D.C ?
Monday, May 3, 2010
In an effort to continue cleaning up Washington, D.C., Senator Jon Tester is leading an effort to permanently bar former members of Congress from becoming registered lobbyists.
Tester is cosponsoring the Close the Revolving Door Act. In addition to banning former members of Congress from becoming lobbyists, the measure would increase the “cooling off” period to six years before former Congressional staffers could register as lobbyists. Staffers currently must wait one year.
The legislation also prevents a registered lobbyist from being hired by any member of Congress or committee they have lobbied for at least six years.
Tester does not allow himself to be lobbied by former U.S. Senators with whom he has served, or by former staff members who become registered lobbyists.

Arizona deputy shot; illegal immigrants suspected AK47
PHOENIX – A sheriff's deputy was shot and wounded Friday after encountering a group of suspected illegal immigrants who apparently had been hauling bales of marijuana along a major smuggling corridor in the Arizona desert — a violent episode that comes amid a heated national debate over immigration.
State and federal law enforcement agencies deployed helicopters and scores of officers in pursuit of the suspects after the deputy was shot with an AK-47 on Friday afternoon, and the search continued into the night. Deputy Louie Puroll, 53, had a chunk of skin torn from just above his left kidney, but the wound was not serious and he was doing fine.

Obama wants to annex Puerto Rico ?
Audio Available:
April 28, 2010 - 3:00 ET
GLENN: I'm going to put a congressman on the phone with us in just a second, but I want to explain, I want to explain a little bit of something about what you're going to hear. I want you to understand that now in Washington we can't talk about principles and more. We can't talk about anything that is real anymore. All we talk about, when you talk about anything that's happening in Washington, you must frame it in, "This is only about politics and the future power for any given group of people." That's really all it is.
Now, there are those in Washington that are fighting for a reduction of that power, but there are very few of them. Remember also that the progressive party, the progressive party is only about power and control. Progressives, if you understand it the way they do in England and in Europe, progressives are Fabian socialists. They are left and right, Nazi and communist. Here left is used to be big government; right is anarchy. Used to be. Now left and right more and more are big government, both sides. Your only choice, big government. If I said to you that this government is going to do something wait, wait. Let me give you the third principle of progressivism. Big government, left and right doesn't matter. Two is democracy, democratically elected. Democracy is a very important word. We're a republic. That's why they use democracy. Democratically elected, let me give you just a list of a few people who have been democratically elected. Chavez, Castro, Ahmadinejad, Hitler, Mussolini I believe was democratically elected, democratically elected. Usually in a progressive world democratically elected comes with a little twist. There's always something that happens. For instance, Hitler wasn't the Führer. He was the chancellor, democratically elected. And then he cobbled together a coalition that everybody said, oh, no, that will never happen here. And it did, and he became the Führer. Democratically elected always has a little something special to it, in the progressive world. Power. Parties don't matter, principles don't matter. Power and control. Democratically elected.
And the third one? Social justice. Got it? If I told you that our congress, with everything that is going on, they are going to pick up a bill tomorrow and vote on let's see if I I love. I have to get this one exactly right. A Puerto Rican Democracy Act. We have the Puerto Rico democracy act. Who could be against democracy? This is to officially sanction self determination for Puerto Rico. Why do we need to do that in congress, why would we I mean, you can self determine. That's fantastic, great. Why are we doing that? What you're about to hear is going to sound like a conspiracy theory. Tonight on television I'm going to tell you about the evidence now. Tonight on television I will show it to you and your friends. You need to tell everybody. Listen or watch today because you're about to sew another star on the flag of the United States and it will happen, and you have no you'll be like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait, what?

Why Goldman Is Willing to Take the Heat by Glen Beck
Pres Obama and the CCX ?
First Glenn makes and astute point: If Goldman is really the bad guy, why are these people still on the job? The Goldman suit is a put up job!
• William C. Dudley, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York; was a partner and managing director at Goldman
• Gary Gensler, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission; spent 18 years at Goldman
• Mark Patterson, chief of staff to Tim Geithner; former Goldman lobbyist
• Philip Murphy; nominated for ambassador to Germany; former Goldman executive
• Diana Farrell; deputy director of the National Economic Council; formerly with Goldman
• Emil Michael; White House fellow; former investment banker with Goldman
Glenn tells us that a watchdog has steered him to the collusion between Barrack Obama, George Soros, Al Gore, Goldman Sachs, Franklin Raines (super crooked Fannie Mae head), CCX, and Generation Investment Management (GIM-London based co-founded by AL Gore).
Know the crooks and their roles:
George Soros, Joyce Foundation and connection to CCX.
What is CCX, the Chicago Climate Exchange, projected to gross 10 Trillion a year is Cap-N-Tax passes. Obama played a pivotal role in the formation of the CCX. (Click here for expose)
Barrack Hussein Obama, Board Member of the Joyce Foundation, funded the formation of the CCX. (
Valerie Jarrett is still on the board, Obama’s top adviser.) Obama sat on board and funneled money to Ayer’s brother (wild huh, just a guy in his neighborhood) and to form the CCX.
AL Gore--Goldman Sachs-- GIM: Hold on to your britches, London-based Generation Investment Management sees the Trillion and they purchased a huge stake in Chicago Climate Exchange (fifth largest shareholder.) The founder of GIM is none other than former Vice President Al Gore along with Goldman people. For example other founders are David Blood (former Goldman executive), Mark Ferguson (Goldman) and Peter Harris (Goldman) to name a few. “
Franklin Raines, mega crooked banker and bust Fannie Mae head, uses Fannie Mae (taxpayers money) to buy the technology to measure and manage carbon. The patent was award the day after Obama and Dems won the election.
Goldman Sachs owns ten percent of the CCX and its 10 Trillion a year potential. (CCX is 10% owned by Goldman Sachs (GS) and 10% owned by Generation Investment Management (GIM).) Gore, Goldman, and Cap and Trade - Tangled Web of Corruption

Ariz. immigration debate pressures McCain
By JONATHAN J. COOPER and PAUL DAVENPORT,
PHOENIX – Republican Sen. John McCain, who once championed a path to citizenship for the nation's roughly 12 million undocumented immigrants, is now pushing for a crackdown on illegals amid the toughest re-election fight of his career.
McCain's hardline stance on immigration comes in the face of a credible GOP primary challenger, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, and the possibility that the party's 2008 presidential nominee could lose his Senate seat because many conservatives don't consider him one of their own.
Engaged in a fierce contest with the tea party-backed Hayworth, McCain has moved to the right on numerous issues, including gay rights and climate change, and disavowed his long-standing maverick label.
The killing of an Arizona rancher last month stoked conservatives' emphasis on fighting illegal immigration. The state Legislature on Monday sent Republican Gov. Jan Brewer one of the toughest immigration laws in the country; Brewer hasn't said what she will do. The turn of events has moved immigration to the forefront for voters — and Hayworth has used the issue as a cudgel against McCain.
On March 27, rancher Rob Krentz, 58, was found dead on his all-terrain vehicle after making a garbled call about encountering someone apparently needing help. Authorities say they believe Krentz was shot by an illegal border-crosser, possibly someone working for a smuggling cartel, although they haven't made arrests in the case.
Hayworth has assailed McCain's work on a 2005 bill that included providing a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, a provision Hayworth calls amnesty. McCain co-sponsored the bill with the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., and argued in 2007 when the effort failed that he wouldn't give up because "the American people will not settle for the status quo — de facto amnesty and broken borders."
Facing pressure from conservatives in his own party, he began backing off his support of an immigration overhaul during his presidential primary campaign. Early in 2008, McCain privately told congressional Republicans that he had been hurt politically by his push for immigration reform and had learned that sealing the border should be a top priority.
In his bid for a fifth term, the 73-year-old lawmaker has made clear that he understands the political reality.
McCain was on the air this week to pitch a tough crackdown on illegal immigration, renewing a call to deploy 3,000 National Guard troops to the Arizona border, the busiest stretch for illegal border crossings. He also wants 3,000 additional Customs and Border Protection agents, new fences and increased aerial surveillance.
The plan was released with fellow Arizona Republican Sen. Jon Kyl, but it was McCain who went on Fox News Channel to sell it.
The plan was similar to a proposal released a week earlier by Arizona ranchers who went to the state Capitol after Krentz's death.
Hayworth called the senators' plan an "election-year gimmick." McCain's campaign spokesman, Brian Rogers, accused Hayworth of using the rancher's death "to exploit a family's tragedy to score cheap political points."
Hayworth also said McCain's actions are too little, too late.
"Had McCain supported my efforts in 2005 to secure the U.S. border, rather than stubbornly supporting amnesty, we would not be trying to apply quick fixes today," Hayworth said.
McCain argued that he's been working for years on securing the border and says he's worked directly with Mexican President Felipe Calderon on the issue.
"I have a long record of legislative efforts as well as other efforts to try and get the border secured," he said.

Minuteman Work Continues in Southern Arizona
Carmen Mercer started with the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps in 2002 Mercer said local chapters will continue to battle illegal immigration despite the fact that the national group has disbanded.
The president of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps says that even though her national group has disbanded, local Minuteman groups can continue to operate, and she promises to continue her work in Cochise County to solve the illegal immigration problem. The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps was founded as a neighborhood watch program in 2002 in Tombstone by Carmen Mercer and Chris Simcox, but it disbanded in late March. Numerous issues, including leadership struggles, financial mismanagement and failed political campaigning were cited as possible reasons for the group's dissolution.
Mercer, 54, president of the recently disbanded MCDC, is a German immigrant who went through the process to gain her U.S. citizenship. She has lived in Tombstone for 14 years and owns the O.K. Caf. She said she was unaware of the problems of illegal immigration until witnessing them first-hand.
"I would come home from Sierra Vista after doing my shopping at night and I would see hundreds of people walking along the San Pedro River, thinking they were tourists," she said. "I met Chris Simcox and told him what I had seen, and he said, 'You can't really think those are tourists. Those were illegal aliens that just broke into our country.'"

Where Do YOUR Taxes Go?
Almost half the nation won't owe income taxes Thursday, thanks to the Bush tax cuts and thousands of dollars in refundable tax credits from President Obama. That's why America's income tax burden looks the way it does. The top one percent of tax payers -- those earning over $390,000 -- pay the same amount in income taxes as the lowest 95 percent of Americans combined. That group comprises anyone making under $150,000, according to the tax foundation.
“Last year, Washington paid out more than $70 billion in refundable tax credits to individuals who either had no income tax liability or just a small one, so that's why people look at April 15 as pay day rather than tax day,” said Scott Hodge, President of the Tax Foundation.
Regardless of how much each American is paying, no one wants his or her money being wasted. Take the C-17, a transport plane Obama tried to cancel last year and is again targeting for termination this year.
In fiscal year 2010, Congress appropriated $2.5 billion to procure 10 C-17 transport planes -- even though the initiative has been opposed by both the Bush and Obama administrations and the Department of Defense decided to cease C-17 production in 2007.
Fox News Calculator: How Much Are YOU Paying for C-17 Production?
Do you want your tax money to pay for 10 C-17 transport planes the Pentagon says it does not want or need, even if it does employ people in 10 states?
We crunched the numbers so you can find out how much it costs you. If you earn $15,000, the planes will cost you a little more than a dollar. If you make between $200,000 $250,000, the planes will cost you about $70.
How about funding for NASA? Obama’s fiscal year 2011 budget would end funding for the Constellation Systems program, initiated by NASA in 2005 to return astronauts to the moon by 2020 and later to Mars. The administration says the program is behind schedule and cannot achieve its goals without budget increases.
Fox News Calculator: How Much Are YOU Paying to NASA?
Now it is your turn to tell Congress which programs you would like to keep funding, and which ones should go.

Huckabee likens gay marriage to incest, polygamy
Children are not puppies
WASHINGTON – Mike Huckabee, a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012, says the effort to allow gays and lesbians to marry is comparable to legalizing incest, polygamy and drug use.
Huckabee also told college journalists last week that gay couples should not be permitted to adopt. "Children are not puppies," he said.

Newt Gingrich Takes Advice From Man Who Calls Obama “The Kenyan”
Former Speaker of the House and potential 2012 Republican candidate Newt Gingrich took questions from a crowd at his “Real Jobs Summit” in New Orleans on Thursday and was put into an uncomfortable position by an audience member who referred to President Barack Obama as “the Kenyan” during a comment after Gingrich’s statements.
Discussing federal expenses, the audience member argued that, even if conservatives managed to lower costs one year, “then year two, when the Kenyan decides we need more money, it’ll be back up to 30, 35%. They can’t be trusted.”

BORDER-LINE DELUSIONAL: JOHN MCCAIN IN HIS OWN WORDS
Phoenix, AZ (April 10) - He's far from alone in his feelings, but even Senator John McCainfeels like he has failed Arizona and the American people when it comes to securing our border with Mexico.
Senator McCain admitted to the Arizona Daily Star editorial board on April 1st that in losing the presidential election, he lost the battle for protecting Arizonans and the American people starting at the U.S.-Mexican border.
In an interview published today, the Star questioned John McCain on his plan to secure the border. McCain's response was, "If I were President, I would have come forward with a proposal. And people keep coming to me and saying 'what's your proposal?' And I say, 'look, I lost the election.'"
McCain has criticized Congress for failing to secure the border which prompted the Star to ask the senator, "What have you done to secure the border?"
McCain's response? "Not enough."
JD Hayworth, who is mounting a conservative challenge to McCain in the August 24th Republican Primary, feels the same as McCain. John McCain hasn't done enough.
"As a Senator he holds the power to introduce bills, to bring solutions to problems, and to rally support," said Hayworth. "With 28 years in Washington - and most of that time as the darling of mainstream media - I don't think he's powerless to get anything done, I think he's unwilling. He doesn't want to lose that darling status."
"That's the primary difference between John McCain and me," Hayworth continued. "Not only am I ready, willing and able to fight for securing the border, my "Enforcement First Act" that I introduced when I was in the House is out there for everyone to read. Unfortunately, less conservative members of Congress - like Senator McCain - weren't willing to do what it takes to finally stop the flow of people, drugs and crime across our border."

In her poem “The New Colossus,” inscribed on the base of the Statue of Liberty, Emma Lazarus wrote: “Give me your tired, your poor / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free / The wretched refuse of your teeming shore / Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.”
Americans embraced that image of a nation that welcomed those who wanted to work hard and grow and build their lives. But Barack Obama has replaced this call for self-reliance with an offer of security and serenity protected, subsidized, and sheltered by the government. Obama heralds his arrival on the battlefield of our politics not with a cacophony of confrontation, but with a lulling siren song designed to sedate and anesthetize us while he transplants our essence and replaces it with something else entirely. His sirens—the modern equivalent of those voices that tried to lure Ulysses onto the rocks and to his death in Homer’s Odyssey—sing the same soothing lullaby that has long since lulled Europe and Japan into a trance.
THE SIREN SINGS: Put aside your ambition. Don’t work so hard. Slow down and live a little. Don’t worry. Give the government your insecurities. Let us take care of them.
BUT REALITY ANSWERS: If we go back to being a nation of childlike dependents, relying on a parental government, we will become poorer and poorer, having to make do with less and less. Government cannot create jobs or wealth. It can only take from some and give it to others. And if people cannot keep their own money, they will stop working, innovating, taking the risks that are key to survival and growth—and we will all have less.
THE SIREN SINGS: You’re not alone in the world. You have your community to surround you and a safety net below you. We have anticipated all the vagaries of life, all of its uncertainties, and have made provision for them.
BUT REALITY ANSWERS: It’s the fear of failure, as much as the dream of success, that motivates us all to work hard, compete, and succeed. If life holds no perils, there’s little to get us out of bed in the morning. While we must protect those who cannot help themselves, for most of us it’s the fear of bad outcomes—as much as the lure of reward—that impels our labor.
THE SIREN SINGS: Give up some of your sovereignty and independence. You won’t need it anymore. Your leaders will show you what to do. You must surrender what you have to the community. We are all in this together. We are a unit, an entity. We will share the sacrifice, take care of each other, and let our government point the way.
BUT REALITY ANSWERS: Government does almost everything worse than private business. The U.S. Postal Service is a joke compared to FedEx and UPS. The Veterans Administration hospitals are a disgrace to the men and women who have served us. Our government cannot control our borders. It can’t even distribute flu shots to those who need them. Private and church schools educate better, for less money, than public educational institutions do. State universities are drowning in their own bureaucracy. And the list goes on. Only in the military, police, and firefighting services—with their extraordinary standards of martial discipline, self-sacrifice, unit cohesion and morale—does the public sector excel.
THE SIREN SINGS: Abandon the delusions of your religious faith. They are old, for a different time. You don’t need them anymore. Secular humanism has made them unnecessary. Turn away from the spurious rituals and the false security they offer. Embrace the real security of a committed community led by enlightened experts.
BUT REALITY ANSWERS: We each have a God-sized hole in our hearts and souls. Without faith, some people turn to addiction; others lose themselves in narcissism. Some become workaholics, others compulsive gamblers, and still others status-seekers who make the acquisition of material goods their own yardstick in life. Where religion falters, self-involvement takes the place of child-rearing, and birth rates drop. Values decline—and an increase in crime, sexually transmitted disease, and suicide are the result.
THE SIREN SINGS: You don’t really need your democracy anymore. Let us experts run things. We know better than you what you need and we have the knowledge to get it for you. Turn away from the cantankerous politics of shrill debate. Trust those who act with benign knowledge of what is best for you.
BUT REALITY ANSWERS: The experts covet power, and power corrupts them as easily as it does anyone else. Bureaucracies become obsessed with self-perpetuation and soon lose sight of the populations they are supposed to serve. They develop cozy relationships with the power brokers in big companies to form a consortium of business and government to control our lives. It is only through democracy that we can fight their tyranny.

Obama is 'most radical president ever'
NEW ORLEANS Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a potential presidential candidate in
2012, called Barack Obama on Thursday "the most radical president in American history" who
oversees a "secular, socialist machine."
Gingrich reminded conservative activists why he was one of the nation's most polarizing leaders in the 1990s, opening the Southern Republican Leadership Conference with a biting assessment of Obama's policies.
"The most radical president in American history has now thrown down the gauntlet to the American people: 'I run a machine.
I own Washington and there's nothing you can do about it,'" Gingrich said. He urged his fellow Republicans to stop what he called Obama's "secular, socialist machine."

he said that people couldn't back up the "notion"
that he's a socialist.

Vigilantes expect more to come after Robert Krentz murder
COCHISE COUNTY - After the murder of rancher Robert Krentz, vigilante groups are already patrolling that area of the border. They say they expect more to show up, but some warn that it is a whole different atmosphere now.
"This is a heavily traveled area."
The Cochise County Militia has been known to have nearly 400 members patrolling the border and Dan Frazier expects even more action now, after Krentz's murder.
"If they do come down, I hope they do it the right way, work with law enforcement and not against law enforcement. And the more the merrier. There's enough out here for everybody," said Frazier.
But others like Glenn Spencer with the American Border Patrol say the shooting has changed everything.
"I've thought for years and told people, 'You're alright down here by the border.' They won't hurt the gringo because they know if they start attacking the Americans, our government will be forced to do something," said Spencer.
He lives just a few hundred feet from the border. He says it puts him at an even greater risk to the danger.
"They could be here, kill me and be back in Mexico in five minutes after I'm dead" Spencer said Tuesday.

OBAMA'S PLAN TO CRIPPLE EDUCATION REFORMS
To date, the only area in which we have found ourselves in agreement with President Obama was over his announced intention to enforce strict and elevated education standards and move toward paying teachers based on merit.
Now, Obama has retreated from his position of principle and embraced a mealy-mouthed compromise designed to placate school administrators, teachers unions, and their political acolytes at the expense of educational standards.
Over the weekend, Obama announced a series of changes in the No Child Left Behind Law most of which will weaken it and might even cripple the efforts to raise school standards. The Law - and most education terminology - is coded with euphemisms and generalities that must be translated, so let us help to provide a code book.
The NY Times reports that Obama's plan would "use annual tests along with other indicators" to measure achievement in the nation's schools. What are the other indicators? The Times says they include "pupil attendance, graduation rates, and learning climate."
This proposed change will totally undermine the central principle of No Child Left Behind: that schools be judged by objective indices of student performance. By factoring in attendance rates the changes give credit for putting warm bodies in seats. By focusing on graduation rates, they permit schools to push up their ratings by passing out good grades to incompetent students. And by looking at the "learning climate" the changes would inject subjective and vague criteria which would permit failing schools to disguise that fact. While it is not always good to base measurements of performance only on tests of reading and math, these examination scores at least afford independent, objective indications of student ability. By permitting fudging through these new subjective or self-vindicating standards, Obama undermines the whole concept of educational reform.
The Times indicates that Obama wants to find the "5,000 chronically failing schools" while also identifying the 10,000 to 15,000 excellent ones and the 80,000 schools in between. This quota system ignores two abysmal facts: Under No Child Left Behind, one school in three was found to be failing and there has been no appreciable increase in either reading or math scores for the past decade.
By sweeping the problem of bad schools under the rug through a numerical quota (or goal) and subjective criteria for measuring performance, Obama lets the legacy of failing public schools continue while parents are dosed with the soothing syrup of reassurance.
Obama also wants to shift the focus from forcing students to achieve proficiency at each grade level to "measuring each student's academic growth regardless of the performance level at which they started." In other words, Obama wants to allow students who cannot read, write, or do math with appropriate ability to be coddled as long as they are improving. When will we learn that flexible standards that bend to accommodate those who cannot meet them do the disadvantaged no good and plenty of harm?
Two parts of the proposed reforms make sense. He would replaced the emphasis on teachers' academic credentials with a focus on evaluating how their pupils are doing and would intervene in otherwise proficient schools where disadvantaged students are falling far behind the bulk of the pupil population.
But these two saving graces are not enough to redeem a program designed to restore the good old days of flattering self-evaluation in education and reassuring, if phony, good news to feed to parents and the community.
Until now, Obama has stood firm on the subject of education reform, resisting efforts to cripple the Bush standards. Now he has retreated even from this position to the detriment of our children.

The Corrosive Effects of Illegal Immigration
By Doug Patton March 08, 2010
Most Americans realize that our federal government's deliberate refusal to control the influx of illegal aliens, primarily from Mexico, has had a deleterious effect on our nation's economy. Scores of California hospitals have had to close their doors because of a tsunami of illegals seeking "free" health care -- and receiving it.
Schools across the country are being forced to deal with the children of those here illegally, with many states now fighting over whether to offer these children in-state tuition to attend state colleges and universities.
Two of the largest business associations in the country are at odds over this issue. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which sees cheap, illegal labor as a boon for big business, favors a program that keeps our southern border open. But the National Federation of Independent Business, which represents small business owners, says its members frequently see illegals as competition with legitimate enterprise.
We even see sharp divisions in our politics over this issue, as challengers such as former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth take on former Republican presidential candidate John McCain in that state's primary election this year for the GOP nomination for McCain's Senate seat.
But these are only the most obvious consequences of a misguided policy that has overburdened the most prosperous society on earth, and now the corrosive effects of not enforcing our immigration laws is taking a toll on our body politic at a whole new level.

House Republicans are predicting that Pelosi will bring health care to a vote in a few days. This is our LAST CHANCE to stop it.
We need funds desperately and immediately to run ads through the districts of swing Democratic congressmen. As soon as you donate, money will go directly on the air where it will do the most good.
Already, our ads are having an effect and have induced several congressmen who previously voted yes to announce that they are undecided. It is vital that we keep pouring on the pressure.
This is our last chance to stop total destruction of the health care system for our families.
