At a time when the Iraq war is draining President Bush's popularity, you might think that the Democrats would have a consensus plan of their own for ending the bloodshed and winning the peace.

But no such plan exists - because the party's liberal grassroots base and the cautious Washington establishment are too busy warring with each other.

The liberals, emboldened by growing antiwar sentiment in the polls, essentially want a timetable for pulling out the U.S. troops, but the centrists think that such a stance would enable Bush's spin team to once again paint the Democrats as national-security wimps.

Bush is politically vulnerable at the moment, but the fractious Democrats are ill-poised to take advantage. The liberal base is out of sync with the most visible contenders for the 2008 presidential nomination (Sens. Hillary Clinton, Evan Bayh, Joe Biden, and John Kerry), all of whom voted for Bush's war, none of whom have embraced the calls for troop withdrawal.

WASHINGTON - Newt Gingrich suggested on Sunday he might not run for president in 2008 if a rival has all but locked up the Republican nomination by next fall.


The former House speaker from Georgia said it would not be too late for him to enter the race after next Labor Day, if he believed no candidate had a clear advantage. He praised Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) of Arizona and former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani as the contenders to watch.

"If one of them seals it off by Labor Day, my announcing now wouldn't make any difference anyway," Gingrich said. "If none of the three, having from now 'til Labor Day, can seal it off, the first real vote is in 2008. And there's plenty of time in the age of television and e-mail, between Labor Day and 2008."

The nominee will not be picked officially until the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., in early September 2008.

Gingrich pointed out that John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan each waited to announce his candidacy until less than a year was left before the election. Kennedy confirmed he was running on Jan. 2, 1960; Reagan did so for the first time on Nov. 20, 1975, when he did not win the nomination, again on Nov. 13, 1979, and Jan. 29, 1984 when he did capture the White House.

"Of course I'm thinking about it," Gingrich said. "I hope between now and September, to help create with every candidate in both parties, a wave of new ideas, a wave of new solutions."

WASHINGTON - Days after the Republican Party's horrendous showing in the elections, speculation is building that Sen. John McCain is nearing a decision on running for
president in 2008.

The Arizona Republican is considered to be a leading
candidate for the GOP's nomination. But this week in
Phoenix, McCain was insisting that he still hadn't
decided on another White House bid.

Yet the senator and his advisers also have
consistently said in interviews with The Arizona
Republic over the past year that once the midterm
elections were over, he would begin the process of
seriously considering a run. advertisement




The latest such report came Friday when
unidentified sources close to McCain told the
Associated Press that a final decision likely
would not come until after the holidays.

McCain and about a half-dozen of his top aides,
huddled in Phoenix, have already decided to proceed
with the formation of a presidential exploratory
committee as early as next week, ABC News said.

An exploratory committee would enable McCain to
officially start raising money for a presidential
campaign.

A "draft McCain" effort was announced Thursday and
is expected to be formally launched in the next
few weeks in 15 states, including Arizona.

Los Angeles, CA - Why did President George W. Bush wait until after the mid-term elections to replace Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld? Why was there virtually no support from the White House for Republican candidates like Randy Graf and J.D. Hayworth in Arizona?

Most pundits agree that if Rumsfeld was to be replaced, it would have been much better for Republicans had the announcement been made before the elections. And with the razor-thin losses of key Republican candidates to supposedly "conservative" Democrats, it seems clear that a little more money or other support from the President or national GOP headquarters might have kept the House and Senate from turning over to Democrat control.

"Here you have conservative candidates and some incumbents who were solidly in favor of protecting our borders - a position with which the overwhelming American majority agrees," commented Minuteman Founder Jim Gilchrist. "Bush has been unable to pass his amnesty program through the GOP-controlled Congress, but he won't give up, so why wouldn't he welcome a more compliant Democrat-led pro-illegal alien Congress, where he wouldn't have effective opposition from his own party?"

Today's speech by the President tends to confirm Gilchrist's ruminations. When asked about the prospect of the Democrats cooperating with his amnesty proposals, Bush seemed almost delighted with the change of House leadership. Americans who question the open borders policies of this and previous administrations will have plenty to worry about in the coming months, if Gilchrist's analysis proves accurate.

"This is a devastating blow to the security of the country," said Gilchrist. "Every American is at greater risk than before the elections. Illegal aliens and terrorists are celebrating today, but our mission remains clear: we shall continue our surveillance and reporting operations in a continuing effort to inform and mobilize Americans to demand better border security."

Kolbe breaks silence on camping trip inquiry


Arizona Congressman Jim Kolbe breaks his silence about the inquiry into a 1996 camping trip.

A trip he took with two former, male pages and others.

The Justice Department opened an inquiry about the Grand Canyon trip after a complaint was filed at the U.S. Attorney's office in Phoenix two weeks ago.

The inquiry was initiated a few weeks after Kolbe's name was brought up in connection with the congressional page scandal, involving former Congressman Mark Foley.

Foley resigned last month after his racy emails to young, male pages surfaced.

A page, concerned about alleged inappropriate emails from Foley, visited Kolbe's office in either 2001 or 2002.

Kolbe claims he never read the emails or knew of their content and referred the matter to the house clerk.

A complaint was given to the Phoenix office but it's not clear if it accused Kolbe of inappropriate behavior on the Grand Canyon trip.

For weeks, Kolbe has been out of the country and speaking only through his office until Wednesday.

Congressman Kolbe spoke very briefly to the media Wednesday about the inquiry but his message was clear, "I didn't do anything wrong."

He said, "I know there are a number of inquiries that are underway and we are cooperating fully with all those inquiries and I'm sure at the end of the time it will show that we've acted appropriately and did the exactly right thing."

The justice department is looking into a complaint about a 1996 camping trip Congressman Kolbe took with two 17 year old boys, both former pages, along with his sister, staff members, and park employees.

There are conflicting details about what went on.

NBC news interviewed a source who claimed to be "uncomfortable" with Kolbe's attention to one of the pages. The page in question told NBC he didn't want to get into the details.

But a park official and the other page say they didn't see anything inappropriate.

Kolbe said, "It's certainly not fun, there's no question about that and we didn't do anything wrong and I'm think that'll be demonstrated at the end."

Kolbe wasn't willing to discuss former colleague Mark Foley, who's under investigation for sending inappropriate emails to pages.

Kolbe said, "It's not appropriate for me to be get into talking about all the individual things nothing inappropriate was done and I'm sure that will be demonstrated in the end."

The House Ethics committee is also looking into the camping trip.

As for Foley, News 4 learned Wednesday that he checked into the Sierra Tucson treatment facility on October 1st.

Kolbe says he wasn't aware that Foley was in town, Tucson, and has no plans to visit him.

President Bush is pursuing a globalist agenda to create a North American Union, effectively erasing our borders with both Mexico and Canada. This was the hidden agenda behind the Bush administration’s true open borders policy.

Secretly, the Bush administration is pursuing a policy to expand NAFTA politically, setting the stage for a North American Union designed to encompass the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. What the Bush administration truly wants is the free, unimpeded movement of people across open borders with Mexico and Canada.

President Bush intends to abrogate U.S. sovereignty to the North American Union, a new economic and political entity which the President is quietly forming, much as the European Union has formed.

The blueprint President Bush is following was laid out in a 2005 report entitled “Building a North American Community” published by the left-of-center Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). The CFR report connects the dots between the Bush administration’s actual policy on illegal immigration and the drive to create the North American Union:

At their meeting in Waco, Texas, at the end of March 2005, U.S. President George W. Bush, Mexican President Vicente Fox, and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin committed their governments to a path of cooperation and joint action. We welcome this important development and offer this report to add urgency and specific recommendations to strengthen their efforts.
What is the plan? Simple, erase the borders. The plan is contained in a “Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America” little noticed when President Bush and President Fox created it in March 2005:

In March 2005, the leaders of Canada, Mexico, and the United States adopted a Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), establishing ministerial-level working groups to address key security and economic issues facing North America and setting a short deadline for reporting progress back to their governments. President Bush described the significance of the SPP as putting forward a common commitment “to markets and democracy, freedom and trade, and mutual prosperity and security.” The policy framework articulated by the three leaders is a significant commitment that will benefit from broad discussion and advice. The Task Force is pleased to provide specific advice on how the partnership can be pursued and realized. To that end, the Task Force proposes the creation by 2010 of a North American community to enhance security, prosperity, and opportunity. We propose a community based on the principle affirmed in the March 2005 Joint Statement of the three leaders that “our security and prosperity are mutually dependent and complementary.” Its boundaries will be defined by a common external tariff and an outer security perimeter within which the movement of people, products, and capital will be legal, orderly and safe. Its goal will be to guarantee a free, secure, just, and prosperous North America.
The perspective of the CFR report allows us to see President Bush’s speech to the nation as nothing more than public relations posturing and window dressing. No wonder President Vincente Fox called President Bush in a panic after the speech. How could the President go back on his word to Mexico by actually securing our border? Not to worry, President Bush reassured President Fox. The National Guard on the border were only temporary, meant to last only as long until the public forgets about the issue, as has always been the case in the past.

The North American Union plan, which Vincente Fox has every reason to presume President Bush is still following, calls for the only border to be around the North American Union — not between any of these countries. Or, as the CFR report stated:

The three governments should commit themselves to the long-term goal of dramatically diminishing the need for the current intensity of the governments’ physical control of cross-border traffic, travel, and trade within North America. A long-term goal for a North American border action plan should be joint screening of travelers from third countries at their first point of entry into North America and the elimination of most controls over the temporary movement of these travelers within North America.
Discovering connections like this between the CFR recommendations and Bush administration policy gives credence to the argument that President Bush favors amnesty and open borders, as he originally said. Moreover, President Bush most likely continues to consider groups such as the Minuteman Project to be “vigilantes,” as he has also said in response to a reporter’s question during the March 2005 meeting with President Fox.

Why doesn’t President Bush just tell the truth? His secret agenda is to dissolve the United States of America into the North American Union. The administration has no intent to secure the border, or to enforce rigorously existing immigration laws. Securing our border with Mexico is evidently one of the jobs President Bush just won’t do. If a fence is going to be built on our border with Mexico, evidently the Minuteman Project is going to have to build the fence themselves. Will President Bush protect America’s sovereignty, or is this too a job the Minuteman Project will have to do for him? see more at………………

if Democrats win the Senate in November.

McCain, on a visit to Iowa to campaign for

his reaction to a potential Democratic takeover

"I think I'd just commit suicide," McCain told

PHILADELPHIA - Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's biggest retailer, must pay at least $78 million for violating Pennsylvania state labor laws by forcing employees to work through rest breaks and off the clock, a jury said Friday.



Michael Donovan, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, had asked
the jury for at least that amount for what he said were
missed or shortened breaks, or time employees worked off
the clock.

The class-action suit involves 187,000 current and former employees who worked at Wal-Mart and Sam's Clubs in Pennsylvania from March 1998 through May of this year.
The Common Pleas Court jury found Thursday that Wal-Mart violated state labor laws.

Lead plaintiff Dolores Hummel, who worked at a Sam's
Club in Reading from 1992-2002, charged in her suit
that she had to work through breaks and after quitting
time to meet work demands in the bakery. She said she
worked eight to 12 unpaid hours a month, on average,
to meet work demands.

"One of Wal-Mart's undisclosed secrets for its
profitability is its creation and implementation of
a system that encourages off-the-clock work for its
hourly employees ..." Hummel said in her suit, which
was filed in 2002.

The plaintiffs used electronic evidence, such as systems
that show when employees are signed on to cash
registers
and other machines, to help win class certification
during several days of hearings last year.

Wal-Mart had a corporate policy that gives hourly
employees in Pennsylvania one paid 15-minute break
during a shift of at least three hours and two such
breaks, plus an unpaid 30-minute meal break, on a
shift of at least six hours.

Sen. John McCain has endorsed Scottsdale Congressman J.D. Hayworth despite a strong disagreement between the two Republicans on illegal immigration. The endorsement will
help the conservative Hayworth with independents and
moderates in a key congressional contest.

The move comes after McCain endorsed Tucson conservative congressional candidate Randy Graf in another Arizona race.
The Graf endorsement is earning McCain criticism from
Democrats who say the senator is selling out to the
Republican Party's right-wing to gain favor for a 2008 presidential run. Democrats point out that Graf is
supported by some ultra-conservatives.

The GOP senator cited Hayworth's support for
business-backed tax cuts and national security
and work for Indian tribes in his endorsement.
He did not mention border security or immigration.

Hayworth favors a security-first approach and opposes
a guest worker program favored by McCain, President
Bush and business groups. McCain supports a more
moderate approach on immigration including a
legal path for some illegal immigrants already in
the U.S.

Hayworth faces a tough election challenge from
former Tempe Mayor and Democratic state Sen.
Harry Mitchell. Mitchell favors a federal guest worker plan.

Hayworth and Mitchell are seeking to represent
a U.S. House seat that includes Tempe,
Scottsdale, Fountain Hills and southeastern
portions of Phoenix. The Hayworth-Mitchell
contest is garnering national attention and
could determine which party controls Congress.

Graf, like Hayworth, opposes the guest worker plan
sponsored by McCain and Kolbe. Graf is also a
member of Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, a
conservative, volunteer group that patrols
the border and is very critical of McCain's
approach to illegal immigration.

Democrats are hoping former state Sen. Gabrielle
Giffords can win the open Kolbe seat. The Arizona
Democratic Party went after McCain for his
backing of Graf saying the GOP senator is looking
to appease the GOP's far right-wing.

"It's sad when John McCain, who has become an icon
on the strength of his convictions, throws those
ideals out the window in order to curry weight
with the extreme wing of his party," said Arizona
Democratic Party Chairman and Director David Waid.

McCain is expected to announce a second presidential
run after the November elections. He has been
reaching out to conservatives, but has had tense
relations with social conservatives and backers
of President Bush.
